Parliament Live News Updates, July 31: As the Parliament convenes for another day of its Monsoon Session today at 11 am, scenes in both the Houses are likely to remain the same as last week — the Opposition protesting against the Narendra Modi government’s handling of the Manipur crisis, the government hitting back saying the Opposition was holding Parliament hostage for its narrow political objectives, and Bills getting pushed through amid the pandemonium.

BJP leader Syed Zafar Islam describes Opposition as “third bottleneck” in the country’s economic growth. “Those who wear black clothes may cover their eyes but they cannot cover the eyes of people.”

Amid total chaos and bedlam in Lok Sabha on Friday, three bills were passed within minutes, which included the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2023, which will allow private sector to bid for mining critical minerals like Lithium.

The northeastern state of Manipur has been in strife since May this year when violence broke out between Meiteis and Kukis. 

Manish Tewari of the Congress opposed the introduction of the bill, claiming the House lacked "legislative competence" to do so. He said the measure transgresses on the right to privacy and separation of power and suffers from the malady of excessive delegation.
