Age doesn t have to be a barrier to living an active successful life
Chancellor von Bismarck, founder of the world’s first pension system, chose the age of 70 for the revolutionary scheme he introduced in Germany in 1889. This was not for altruistic reasons but to smash socialism; 70 was chosen because the scheme would not be too costly, as many were dying around that age. 
The traditional threescore years and 10 was adopted by other countries including Great Britain, but this age, and subsequent changes in pension age were calculated by actuaries. They do not indicate any physical or psychological changes at 70, 65 or indeed any chronological age. Furthermore, people aged 70 or over differ from one another in many more ways than they resemble each other, so any generalisations should be very carefully made and even more carefully accepted as “fact”.  ....
