Sankaran served in the role of director, while S. Somanath held the position of chairman at ISRO. Among the team members was scientist Chayan Dutta from Assam. The mission targeted the Moon's South Pole, successfully achieving India's inaugural soft landing on the lunar surface.
India's space agency, ISRO, has confirmed that its lunar mission, Chandrayaan-3, is proceeding as planned. The systems are being regularly checked, and the Mission Operations Complex in Bengaluru is busy with preparations for the mission's landing. The live telecast of the landing operations will begin on August 23. Chandrayaan-3 aims to achieve a soft landing on the moon, demonstrate the rover's capabilities, and conduct scientific experiments to better understand the moon's composition. If successful, India will become the fourth country to land on the moon, after the US, Russia, and China.
ISRO announced on Sunday that it has successfully reduced the orbit of the Chandrayaan-3 mission's Lander Module (LM), bringing it closer to the moon. The LM, comprising the lander 'Vikram' and rover 'Pragyan,' is set to touch down on the lunar surface on August 23. The LM will undergo internal checks before commencing the powered descent. Chandrayaan-3 is a follow-on mission to Chandrayaan-2 to demonstrate end-to-end capability in safe landing and roving on the lunar surface.
India's Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft's Vikram lander is set to conduct a crucial deboosting manoeuvre today. The lander has been named after Vikram Sarabhai, regarded as the father of the Indian space programme. It has been a month and three days since the Indian Space Research Organisation launched the Chandrayaan-3 mission on July 14. The spacecraft was launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Andhra Pradesh's Sriharikota.
