Some say the nonprofit has helped Malawian teenagers get a U.S. college education. Others say students arrive in Nebraska with no money, housing or way to pay for school.
The sisters were kicked out of Wayne State College a month into the semester because they had no money to pay tuition, room and board.
A nonprofit has won acclaim for sending Malawian teenagers to Nebraska colleges and changing their lives. But some students, college leaders and Norfolk host parents are fed up, and saying the Malawian teenagers have been misled by false promises leaving them penniless, nearly homeless and lost.
The Orphan Grain Train collection trailer will be at Peace Lutheran’s parking lot (2720 28th St.) in Columbus on May 11 and May 12.
