MEIL establishes 500 COVID beds in 72 hours in Tamil Nadu

New Delhi: At a time, when southern state Tamil Nadu is dealing with over 3 lakh active COVID-19 cases, infrastructure and real estate firms are aiding the state government in ramping up temporary beds and medical equipment across the state. As a part of this effort, Hyderabad-based Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Ltd (MEIL) is setting up beds in hospitals that already have oxygen facilities. 
Last week, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin inaugurated 500 scalable oxygenated bed facilities at Thoppur Government Hospital in Madurai. The hospital will provide free-of-cost oxygen beds to the patients. According to MEIL, they could complete the entire work of setting up a 500-bed facility in a record time of 72 hours with the active contribution of Credai and G Square Realtors.  ....

New Delhi: The Delhi high court on Friday declared as “unconstitutional the Centre’s decision to impose Integrated Goods and Services Tax (IGST) on oxygen concentrators which are imported by the individuals and said the COVID-19 pandemic is like a “George Floyd moment for the citizens of India” where the scarcity of oxygen, hospital beds and other medical equipment has brought out the best and worst in people. ....

Lack of oxygen: Four more die in Kalaburagi | Hubballi News

KALABURAGI: Four more patients succumbed at a taluk hospital in Kalaburagi in the wee hours of Tuesday due to a shortage of oxygen. Nine had died on Monday and of the four who died on Tuesday, two were male. All four were on oxygen support.
Prashant Patil, an advocate from Afzalpur, whose client’s brother was among the dead, scoffed at the district administration’s claims that the patients died of comorbidities and that there was no shortage of oxygen at the hospital.
“Yes, there was oxygen early in the evening, but stock was exhausted by the night,” Prashanth said. “The hospital expected refill cylinders to arrive late in the night, but that didn’t come. All four patients desperately needed oxygen support. They died before fresh stock arrived.” Patil said eight other patients were provided oxygen from the fresh stock in the morning. ....

The director of Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences Vinay Dastikopp has denied reports that four persons died of oxygen scarcity in the government medical college hospital.
“There is no scarcity of oxygen in the hospital. We have our own dedicated oxygen supply to the wards and beds,” he told journalists.
“Of the 1,040 beds in the hospital, we have set aside 300 for COVID treatment. The rest are for emergency healthcare departments including obstetrics and gynaecology, orthopaedics, surgery and general medicine. We can expand the COVID ward if we get additional rooms or a separate building,” he said in reply to a question. ....
