Earlier this week, Clare club Sixmilebridge wrote a letter to The Clare Champion strongly condemning the online attacks. We are a club that represents community, promoting a deep sense of place and a sense of belonging, it read. All of this adds up to a club which will not stand aside if we as a club believe any of our members are being unfairly treated. The Clare hurling legend told Ryan Tubridy on Friday night’s Late Late Show how ‘tough’ it has been for the pair to put up with the ‘page and pages’ of hurtful comments online. So serious is the nature of the online comments directed at Pat Fitzgerald, who is Secretary of the Clare county board, that it became the subject of a Garda investigation last year. The Clare club have insisted that “a line has been crossed” with regards to the vitriol aimed at county secretary Pat Fitzgerald and his son Davy, both online and in person, and they are adamant that “it has to stop”. ....
