After a tumultuous 2023, the Philippines is set for another year of confrontation in contested waters.
Gen. Andres Centino, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), recently visited under-construction and completed infrastructure projects in two Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) sites in Palawan near the West Philippine Sea (WPS).
The Philippine Coast Guard command center received information from Coast Guard District Palawan about the sinking of “M/Y Dream Keeper” off Tubbataha, which is home to marine protected area (MPA) Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park, on April 30, 2023.
The weapons drill was part of the largest-ever annual Balikatan exercise, involving 17,600 troops from both nations, which kicked off April 11 and concludes April 28.
The United States Navy and Philippine Navy announced the maritime patrol equipment available for the 2023 Balikatan exercises.
