The planning ministry on Tuesday approved the proposal of Bangladesh Bridge Authority, seeking extension of the deadline because the pandemic slowed down progress. June 23 is the founding anniversary of the Awami League. The ministry, however, assured that the project cost will not exceed the current Tk 30,193 crore. The deadline was June this year. The 41st span was installed at 12:02pm today, Dewan Md Abdul Quader, project manager of Padma Bridge, told The Daily Star. Bridge Division s Secretary Belayet Hossain said the installation work began at 9:40am. The construction work of the long-awaited Padma Bridge started in December 2015 and the first span (superstructure) was installed on September 30, 2017. The length of the double-deck Padma bridge is 6.15 kilometres. Trains will run through the lower deck while the road will be on the upper level of the bridge. ....
