DHAKA, June 1, 2021 (BSS)–Construction work of the fast-track projects is progressing fast as experts and employees are working in three shifts to complete these projects without any further delay.
According to an official concerned, foreign experts and workers of the fast-track projects are working hard to complete the projects as per the government’s desire.
The official said the COVID-19 pandemic hindered pace of work of the fast-track projects, including most important Padma Multipurpose Bridge Project, Rapid Mass Transit (MRT) Line-6 and also Payra port development work.
“Once these projects are completed, the country’s economy will see a big change,” said the official. ....

ADP gets 14pc bigger
It may take four to 12 years to complete 1,426 ongoing development projects because of slow implementation and meagre allocation, highlighting the need for the government to prioritise works and accelerate execution to avoid cost and time overruns.
The grim scenario was painted in a presentation of the planning ministry at a meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC) yesterday.
The meeting approved a Tk 225,324 crore annual development programme (ADP) for the next fiscal year of 2021-22, which is up 14 per cent from the revised budget in the outgoing fiscal year.
The combined estimated cost of 1,426 projects is Tk 16,60,807 crore. Of the sum, Tk 556,351 crore may be spent as of June this year. ....

The government approved a proposal to extend the deadline for the much-talked-about Padma bridge project to June 23, 2022.
The planning ministry on Tuesday approved the proposal of Bangladesh Bridge Authority, seeking extension of the deadline because the pandemic slowed down progress.
June 23 is the founding anniversary of the Awami League.
The ministry, however, assured that the project cost will not exceed the current Tk 30,193 crore. The deadline was June this year.
Planning Minister MA Mannan told The Daily Star that he signed the proposal on Tuesday. ....
