TOKYO (Reuters) -In its biggest acquisition in a decade, Panasonic Corp on Friday said it will buy U.S. supply-chain software company Blue Yonder in a deal worth $7.1 billion, to tap growing demand from companies as the COVID pandemic tests their resilience to disruption.
Panasonic, which bought a 20% stake in Blue Yonder for 86 billion yen ($797 million) last year, will acquire the rest of the stock from shareholders including Blackstone Group Inc and New Mountain Capital, in an agreement, including debt, that values Blue Yonder at $8.5 billion, the company said in a press release.

TOKYO (Reuters) - Panasonic Corp said on Tuesday it expects its battery business supplying Tesla Inc to be profitable this fiscal year, and raised its full-year operating profit forecast by more than half.
After several years of production troubles and delays at Tesla, Panasonic is beginning to see its decade-old partnership with the U.S. company become a profit driver.
Panasonic announced in October that it was developing a new battery cell designed by Tesla, one that would help Tesla halve battery costs and ramp up battery production 100-fold by 2030.

TOKYO, Feb 2 (Reuters) - Japanese consumer electronics maker Panasonic Corp on Tuesday posted third-quarter operating profit of 130.2 billion yen ($1.24 billion), according to Reuters calculations, beating analysts forecasts as sales rebounded more than expected.
The third-quarter profit, calculated from Panasonic’s official numbers for the first nine months of the year, is well up from the 100.4 billion yen profit recorded for the same period a year ago. It easily beat an estimate of 74.6 billion yen from four analysts, according to Refinitiv.
Panasonic also raised its full-year operating profit forecast to 230 billion yen from 150 billion yen. That was higher than an average 174.6 billion yen forecast based on estimates from 15 analysts, Refinitiv data shows. “From the next business year we want to end the question of whether (the Tesla) business will be profitable or not,” Chief Financial Officer Hirokazu Umeda said on a call.
