Academics sceptic about recently-passed Senate bill for compulsory Arabic education

Educators and academics have expressed reservations over a recently-passed bill from the Senate for making the teaching of Arabic compulsory at all the educational institutions, saying that the economic prospects of teaching Arabic are low and adding more languages to the curriculum will further deteriorate the teaching standards of mathematics and science subjects.
A few days earlier, the Senate of Pakistan passed the Compulsory Teaching of Arabic Language Bill 2020, to make Arabic a compulsory subject at all the educational institutions.
Talking to The News, a number of educators said the legislators should try to fill the loopholes of the educational system instead of overburdening the students. They opined that about 74 per cent of students from grade I to X were learning two languages Urdu and English – as compulsory subjects. Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India], February 6 (ANI): Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday expressed grief over the demise of prominent freedom fighter Bichhanda Charan Pradhan and extended condolences
to the bereaved family. Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also expressed his grief and commended him for his brave fight against the colonialists.
Bichhanda Charan Pradhan,103, a prominent freedom fighter from Odisha passed away at his residence in Angul District on Friday.

The Nampally POCSO Special Court has passed a sensational verdict in the attempted rape case of a minor.
Hyderabad: The POCSO Special Court in Hyderabad has handed down a sensational verdict in a case of attempted rape of a minor girl.
The man was convicted of attempted rape of a 12-year-old girl. Nampally POCSO Special Court Judge K Sunita on Thursday sentenced a man to 10 years rigorous imprisonment. POCSO judge said the accused was convicted under the law and sentenced to ten years in prison. He was ordered to pay a fine of Rs 5,000. ....

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - If passed, Senate Bill 12 would require public schools to play the National Anthem during the school week and before all athletic events.
The bill’s sponsor, Alabama Senator Gerald Allen, said the idea for this bill started after he was a spectator at his grandchild’s games at school.
“I was at a sporting event, watching my granddaughter play one evening at a volleyball tournament,” Senator Allen said. “I got to thinking about, ‘When are they going to play the National Anthem?’. That wasn’t played.” ....
