Sue Paterno, a longtime Special Olympics Pennsylvania supporter and board member, joined more than 1,600 people in taking part in a virtual “Polar Pop” challenge this week.
The virtual event asks supporters to pop a balloon filled with ice water over their heads to raise money and support for Special Olympics Pennsylvania.
Adorned in a Penn State poncho, Paterno took part in the challenge alongside Matt Prosek, a Centre County Special Olympics volunteer and athlete. Noting she doesn’t like the cold, Paterno strapped on a Darth Vader helmet before taking the plunge.
“I love the athletes and I love what we do with them,” Paterno said.

up for a long time, which is, you know, called the lies about joe paterno or something like that. the fact of the matter is, that i haven t heard them discredit him previously. he now gets discredited when he gets into bed, if you will, with mr. sandusky. then they want to set some distance. of course, the paterno family wants to set distance from mr. sandusky. he is a convicted felon, and he was the root cause. the problem the paternos have is that mr. pat earno, in the documents that we all have, and that have been aired in public by mr. louis freeh, clearly show that joe paterno was complicit in this whole, sordid, ugly affair. all right, tom kline, hearn for victim number five. thank you for coming in and talking to us about this this morning. my pleasure. jerry sandusky speaking for the first time by phone from behind bars everyone hearing tape of that for the first time this morning. tonight the man behind that documentary i m just telling you
reporter: penn state tapped former fbi director louie freeh to investigate who knew what and when about sandusky s dealings with young boys. his report said joe paterno covered the allegations against sandusky. but the paterno family came out swinging. much was overlooked. much was misrepresented in the report. reporter: so they launched their own investigation and concluded there was no evidence the coach hid the allegations against sandusky or ordered a coverup. we didn t have that mindset that he was doing anything more than teaching them, working out with them, and getting a shower. he worked out with them in the weight room. it had nothing to do with suspecting he s a pedophile. reporter: freeh says he stands by his conclusion that powerful people at penn state including joe paterno, failed to protect children. rob and diana, back to you. both reports potentially have conflicts.
