street was looking for something to put the brakes on a two-week slide. it found it in today's unemployment report. it shows that the unemployment rate fell a tenth of a point in july, and there was an increase in hiring. it was small, but better than expected. in a volatile day of trading, the dow shot up 171 points, then dropped 244, and finally closed with a gain of just over 60. it is a long way from the high that it hit back in april. since then, the dow is off 1,365 more than 10.5%. we're covering this story in chicago, london, and washington. first, here's anthony mason. >> re...
