Education Minister speaks about the Scouts Movement

The inaugural ceremony of a series of special programs organized by the Asia Pacific region with the theme Let all children in the country become boy scouts with the aim of developing young boy scouts in the country commenced in Colombo today, under the patronage of Education Minister Prof. G.L. Pieris.
The President of the Sri Lanka Scout Association and several others were also present.
Addressing the gathering the Minister stated that the role of the Scout Movement in instilling a sense of team spirit, empathy and reconciliation in children was unique.

Qatar- National Service Academy cadets' exercise begins


(MENAFN - Gulf Times) An exercise carried out by National Service Academy cadets kicked off on Thursday under the patronage and in the presence of HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs Dr Khalid bin Mohamed al-Attiyah, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.
The exercise will continue until February 23 and focuses on managing night operations and the methods of their implementation. It is divided into two phases.
The first phase involves night ground operations in which training on a planned attack is carried out during the day and at night. It also includes training on reconnaissance patrols, ambush patrol and attack training for engagement, the QNA report states. ....

Another $1M paid out to customers of Fall River Electric


Fall River Electric Cooperative announces the payment of another $1 million in the form of a rebate to 2020 owner/customers of the Co-op. The Fall River board wanted to return current profits, referred to as margins, to all the Cooperative’s owners knowing that many have been impacted by the on-going pandemic. Additionally, this $1M will be infused back into the local economies of the communities of eastern Idaho and southwestern Montana.
This is on top of the $1.015 million plus paid out to owner-members in December through the Cooperative’s Patronage Capital program, meaning Fall River Electric has now distributed over $2 million dollars within the last two months. February’s disbursement is to those customers that purchased power last year while the December payments were to members of the Co-op that purchased power back in 2000. The patronage capital program is where extra revenues over the cost of operations is then disbursed to its owner-members on an appr ....

SL to open doors for Myanmar travellers mid-2021

Regional Manager (Southeast Asia) of the Sri Lankan Airlines, Mohan Meegolla stated that in the post-COVID phase, Sri Lankan can commence charter flights from mid-2021.
He stated this at a meeting which was held at the Foreign Ministry under the patronage of Foreign Secretary Admiral Prof, Jayanath Colombage, to discuss the possibility of establishing air connectivity with Myanmar.
Due to significant Buddhist cultural connectivity between both countries, air connectivity between Sri Lanka and Myanmar has been discussed for a long time, stated Sri Lanka s Ambassador to Myanmar Prof. Nalin De Silva.
Speaking further he noted that around 300 Buddhist Bikkus are presently studying in Sri Lanka and there are many Sri Lankan Bikkus and delegations visiting Myanmar for meditation and other religious purposes. He also pointed out the immense potential for medical tourism from Myanmar. ....
