Prince Philip, the husband of Queen Elizabeth II, died nearly two weeks ago at the age of 99. In tribute to the Duke, New Zealand is holding a memorial service at Wellington Cathedral on Wednesday at 3pm. It will be attended by senior figures, including the Prime Minister and the Governor-General. Flags have also been directed to fly at half mast throughout Wednesday.

The Duke of Edinburgh has been remembered in New Zealand as frank, engaging and willing to meet people from all walks of life during his 14 visits to the country. New Zealand lowered its flags and held a national memorial service for Philip at the Wellington Cathedral of St Paul, where the duke and the Queen had worshipped several times over the years on their visits to the country. Philip died on April 9 at the age of 99 and was mourned at a funeral service on Saturday at Windsor Castle. The New Zealand memorial happened to coincide with the Queen’s 95th birthday.
