So it s it s a great week for joe biden i think. really interesting. congressman, i wouldn t say that by shooting this down he has silenced the republican critics. what is happening i think they re now casting about for, ooh, was the last one too long and was this one too soon. here is congressman mike waltz of the foreign affairs committee today with this response. i m trying to understand why this much smaller by their own admission much less capable balloon with a much smaller payload was deemed such a threat that the other one wasn t, and it can t just be the altitude. to your point on what our red line should be i guarantee you if we put an object over beijing or over some of their sensitive sites at 40 to 60,000 feet for days collecting sensitive intelligence, they would take action. we need to take reciprocal action and again make that clear up front. want the president to shoot it down or not? ....

Which point f35 fighter jets were sent up to investigate and it was determine the object was flying 40,000 feet and did not have the resentment maneuver on its own, the president determined it pose add risk to civilian aircraft because i have the altitude. unlike the spy balloon from last week, this object did not have visible surveillance equipment on it according to u.s. official. it is also unclear still where the object actually came from but it was heading in a northeasterly direction, well, when shot down on friday. it was also much smaller than the chinese spy balloon, about the size of a small car, whereas the balloon s payload alone was about the size of three busses. u.s. now gun efforts to recover the object s debris which landed on frozen ice about ten miles off the coast of alaska and will be taken to an fbi lab for further processing, cnn washington. the national security council spokesperson said u.s. officials don t know whether the ....

Second flying object that was shot down? well, not much more. they were shot down only about 24 hours after the u.s. military first detected at. they mentioned it was flying at a slightly lower altitude. this was, probably, one of the reasons the pentagon recommended, and the president concurred to shut this thing down. it is a potential threat to civilian aircraft, and also u.s. aircraft they may be flying up in the area. it was in the last week and a half that whatever this object was smaller, they had a significantly smaller payload. this would, also, give the potential to bring it down, because it would have a much smaller debris field on the ground. the bigger this object is, if you blow it up, especially if it breaks into pieces, potentially, it spreads out over a further area. the third reason is, as opposed to the balloon they were tracking ....

Payload. it would appear, though, that just from its size, that it didn t represent the technology that apparently was represented on the chinese balloon. so i do think, if i may just a broader comment. i do think it would be very useful as this situation evolves if the administration could devise a protocol that could be explained to the congress and to the public as what the ground rules are on when and where and under what conditions we d shoot one down or those conditions that we wouldn t want to observe it for intelligence purposes. now, speaking sheerly as an intelligence guy, i was amused a bit by those who were complaining about the chinese balloon being an intelligence failure. but, yet, also complained because we took the time to learn something about it, and ....

Balloon up or some other object, we have to take it down. it s not without expense to us as well. i doubt if that s the cost formula going into effect right now. yeah. but i think it was right to take it down, and i think it was right to wait on the first chinese balloon that went up. the u.s. released very few details about the object shot down. would they have photographed it before shooting it down? would they have actually had eyes on it, do you think? well, i don t know. hopefully they did or had some indication of the nature of its payload. it would appear, though, that just from its size, that it didn t represent the technology that apparently was represented on the chinese balloon. so i do think, if i may just a broader comment, i do think it would be very useful as this situation evolves if the administration could devise a ....
