Correspondent, courtney qb. courtney, thank you for being with us. what more can you tell us about the second flying object that was shot down? well, not much more. they were shot down only about 24 hours after the u.s. military first detected at. they mentioned it was flying at a slightly lower altitude. this was, probably, one of the reasons that they defended the pentagon the president concurred to shoot this down. it is a potential threat to nominate civilian aircraft, and they may be flying up in the area. it was in the last week and a half that whatever this object was smaller, they had a significantly smaller payload. this would, also, give the potential to bring it down, because it would have a much smaller debris field on the ground. the bigger this object is, if you blow it up, especially if it breaks into pieces, potentially, it spreads out over a further area. the third reason is, as opposed ....

Too much of a risk. and they say it was the size of a small car versus the chinese spy balloon where the payload was about the size of three buses. and also the fact that they believe that the object didn t have maneuverability the same way that the chinese spy balloon had maneuverability. but not only was the time line difference here, but also how the administration handled it. justin trudeau said that he was briefed on it, people on the hill, congress said that they were briefed on it as the white house took a lot of flack last week for the way that they hal handled the chinese spy balloon. and here they see them handling it a lot different. so recovery efforts are under way. we re waiting to hear more about what it was and what it was doing and what the next steps for the administration will be. so many questions on this one still. jasmine wright, thank you very much. good to see you as always. let s talk more about this with brian harrell, he was former ....

Maneuver by itself and it was pretty much at the mercy of the winds. there was no surveillance equipment detech on this object, so it was not deemed to be a national security risk but was deemed to be potentially dangerous it civilian aircraft. so the u.s. really did not feel like it had any other choice but to take it down. so around 1:45 p.m. today is when we saw them actually send-up those fighter jets and actually use the same kind of missile that was used just last week for that chinese spy balloon to take it down. now, we still don t know where this object came from or what it even is. it is a lot smaller than the chinese spy balloon, only the size of about a small car as opposed to the payload of that chinese spy balloon being about three buses. now what we re going to see is this recovery effort. this apparently landed on solid ice just about 10 miles north off the coast of alaska. and the recovery effort has already begun, and the next step it s going to be taken to an fbi lab ....

The chinese balloon. it was about the size of a small car, whereas the balloon s payload alone was about the size of three buss. the so the u.s. has begun efforts to recover the debris. it will now be taken to an fbi lab for further processing. cnn, washington. cnn national security analyst and former director of national intelligence james clapper spoke with us about the object shot down. he discussed what he d like to know from an intelligence standpoint. there s some indication of the nature of its payload. it would appear, though, from its size that it didn t just represent the technology that apparently was represented on the chinese balloon. so i do think it would be very ....

After the second incident. listen to this. i m trying to understand why this much smaller by their own admission. much less capable balloon with a much smaller payload was deemed such a threat that the other one wasn t, and it can t just be the altitude. i guarantee you if we put an object over beijing or over some of their sensitive sights at 40 to 60,000 feet for days collecting sensitive intelligence they would take action. we need to take reciprocal action and again make that clear up front. all this took place on the same day the white house announced that president biden will travel to poland to mark one full year of the war in ukraine. cnn s phil mattingly has more. reporter: for president biden one press conference, two very significant news developments. one of which was expected, the announcement that president biden will be traveling to poland in commemoration of the one-year anniversary of the russia s invasion of ukraine, the other very much was not and actually wasn ....
