Governor Ned Lamont today announced that Global Atlantic Financial Group, a leading insurance company meeting the retirement and life insurance needs of individuals and institutions, is growing its operations in Hartford in an expansion plan that includes leasing an additional 11,500 square feet of office space to support approximately 100 new employees.

A new plant is up and running in Berlin, the first in Connecticut that processes food waste into animal feed. Bright Feeds, a New England-based green technology company with offices in Worcester, Mass., opened its Berlin processing plant about three months ago, and celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony last week. The facility takes food waste primarily from commercial facilities and converts it into a “high-quality, nutrient-rich animal feed replacement for soy and corn.”

Global wealth management and investment banking company Stifel will open an office in Stamford, creating 50 new jobs, Gov. Ned Lamont’s office announced Thursday. Stifel currently has offices in Hamden, Hartford, Madison, Mystic and Southbury. The company’s roughly 24,000-square-foot Stamford office will be at 677 Washington Blvd., a tower that previously housed the UBS international banking headquarters.
