Charismatic organist, master of the choristers at Westminster Abbey and conductor who made more than 100 recordings

SALISBURY Cathedral School has launched a campaign to raise £41,000 to renovate and repair its pipe organ.

Simon Preston, an organist, conductor and composer who was an instrumentalist of consummate, intelligent virtuosity and a force in the early-music movement, died on May 13. He was 83.

A force in the world of choral music, he was considered one of the most important English church musicians of his generation.
