Michael Bisping Wants ‘Tougher Penalties’ For Illegal Knees
Michael Bisping wants to see fighters who throw or land illegal knees face “tougher penalties”.
At UFC 259 Petr Yan lost his bantamweight title after being disqualified for kneeing Aljamain Sterling while he was down.
Earlier this week Demetrious Johnson suffered his first-ever stoppage defeat when he was dropped by an uppercut then nailed with a knee while he tried to get up at ONE on TNT 1 – knees to a grounded opponent are legal under the ONE Championship banner.
Many fans have debating if knees to a grounded opponent should be legal throughout MMA.

Fight fans will have to wait a little longer before seeing the rematch between Aljamain Sterling and Petr Yan.
Sterling, who captured the UFC bantamweight title last month at UFC 259 after Yan was disqualified for an illegal knee (see it HERE), was expected to book a rematch with the Russian fighter shortly after their first fight. “Funk Master” received considerable backlash for the way he handled the DQ win and was hoping a rematch with Yan would solidify his roll as the UFC’s 135-pound champ.

Sterling & Johnson Still Disagree On Rules After Johnson’s Knee KO Loss
Demetrious Johnson, Aljamain Sterling
Aljamain Sterling and Demetrious Johnson still disagree on whether knees to a downed fighter should be legal, even after Johnson fell victim to the maneuver on Wednesday.
Following Aljamain Sterling’s DQ victory over Petr Yan to become the new UFC bantamweight champion, one of the many people who weighed in on the controversial win was Demetrious Johnson. Johnson argued that knees to a downed fighter should be legal so that fighters cannot stall the fight. Due to the timing of Johnson’s take, Sterling couldn’t help but read between the lines and consider it to be a veiled accusation that he was stalling in the fight against Yan. Sterling issued a heated response to Johnson and has continued to argue in favor of the rule that illegalizes knees to a down opponent.

Petr Yan sends a message to Aljamain Sterling: "Your ass is getting stripped p*ssy"

UFC bantamweight contender Petr Yan sent a message to his rival Aljamain Sterling, telling him that “your ass is getting stripped p*ssy.”
Yan and Sterling met last month at UFC 259 and their fight ended in controversy, after Yan landed an illegal knee late in the fourth round that caused the fight to be ruled a DQ win for Sterling. For the past month, these two rivals have been going back-and-forth with each other on social media. They did so again on Thursday when Yan took a shot at Sterling for potentially needing nine more months to recover. Sterling apparently told the UFC that he is not ready to defend his belt anytime soon and Yan isn’t having any of it.

Welcome to Midnight Mania!
It probably wasn’t supposed to happen this way.
When planning One Championship’s debut on TNT, the promotion could not have predicted that Eddie Alvarez was suffer a highly questionable DQ loss, nor did it likely expect Adriano Moraes — a roughly 5-1 underdog — to stop “Mighty Mouse” in the second round. The Brazilian started strong, using a leg lock to gain top position in the first frame. His advantage grew in the second when an uppercut rocked the advancing Johnson, who then landed in prime position to absorb a vicious grounded knee.

Demetrious Johnson Rates Petr Yan As Potential Toughest Test At 135 Pounds
ONE Championship
Demetrious Johnson views Petr Yan as his toughest test at 135 pounds.
Although Johnson is competing as a flyweight at ONE Championship, he is actually competing at 135 pounds as opposed to 125 pounds due to the promotion moving up the weight classes.
That means Johnson hasn’t had to deal with a major weight cut throughout his time at ONE. On the flipside, it means the combat sports world is missing out on witnessing him compete against the very best bantamweights in the world.
A move up to bantamweight was talked about a couple of years ago when TJ Dillashaw was the 135-pound champion. However, it never ended up coming to fruition.

It looks like fans and Petr Yan may be in for a long wait for Aljamain Sterling to return for a UFC 259 rematch.
Petr Yan entered UFC 259 as bantamweight champion but would go on to lose the strap after illegally kneeing Sterling in the face. This left all parties involved with an unpleasant aftertaste in their mouths about the outcome of the fight because there was no clear, definitive, and conventional winner determined.
While a disqualification is officially a victory, it is not the type of conclusive result that has the general public considering the winner to necessarily be the better fighter that night (see Matt Hamill over Jon Jones). Therefore, everyone, including Sterling, has voiced a desire to have a more decisive resolution, and the only way for that to happen is for the two elite bantamweights to run it back.

Henry Cejudo roasts "Oscar winner" Aljamain Sterling following recent jab

Henry Cejudo did not hold back on Aljamain Sterling after the current UFC bantamweight champion took a shot at him on social media.
Sterling had recently commented on a photo shared by Cejudo, where he insinuated that the “ex-champ” had something in his teeth.
You got something in your teeth, ex-champ.
“You got something in your teeth, ex-champ.” – Sterling captioned Cejudo’s post.
‘Triple C’, who was initially respectful of Sterling capturing his former title by way of DQ, was obviously not impressed by Aljamain’s jab and proceeded to roast ‘Funkmaster’ with the following tweets.

TJ Dillashaw Completely Overlooking Aljamain Sterling In Title Plans
Aljamain Sterling, TJ Dillashaw
TJ Dillashaw is not putting Aljamain Sterling in his plans at all as he prepares to make his push toward reclaiming the bantamweight championship.
It has been over two years since TJ Dillashaw has been able to call himself the UFC bantamweight champion. His designation as such fell not because he dropped the title in competition but because of a two-year USADA suspension for taking EPO. Dillashaw is now geared and ready to make his return in a little over one month’s time against Cory Sandhagen on May 8.

MMA Hot List -- No surprise at No. 1, but who joins UFC champ Francis Ngannou in the Top 10?

UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou captured the imagination -- as well as the most prestigious prize -- of the combat sports world when he dethroned Stipe Miocic at UFC 260 on Saturday.
So it was no surprise that ESPN's panel made Ngannou its overwhelming choice for the top spot of its latest Hot List.
The list recognizes achievements over the past three months, a time span that featured two new champions -- including bantamweight Aljamain Sterling, who became the first person to win a UFC belt by disqualification when Petr Yan landed an illegal knee -- and several knockout-of-the-year candidates. Success, controversy and flash conspired to make this one of the more intriguing periods in UFC history.

In March it was announced that former bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw would fight second-ranked Cory Sandhagenin the headliner of a Fight Night event on May 8 and now, with a little over a month until they face each other in the cage, Dillashaw is starting to build a little heat for the fight.
Dillashaw—who has been out for the last two years serving a suspension for EPO use—recently spoke with ESPN where he took a shot at Sandhagen for some comments the rising contender made about him.
“I like Cory Sandhagen,” Dillashaw said. “He’s become a little bit of a douche lately, talking that s*** which he’s gotta do, that’s the name of the game, but I like Cory Sandhagen. I like all of his coaches, I like Elevation Fight Team, but that’s the business. We’re gonna get out there, we’re gonna handle it, and I’m gonna come back and get my belt.”

T.J. Dillashaw may still like Cory Sandhagen, but he does not sound too fond of some comments made by his upcoming opponent in the lead-up to their fight in May.
Dillashaw makes his return to the Octagon after serving a two-year suspension from the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) following a positive test for EPO days before his fight with Henry Cejudo at UFC Brooklyn in 2019. He became eligible to compete again this year, so the quest to find an opponent for the former bantamweight champion was quickly set in motion.

This past weekend, Francis Ngannou knocked out Stipe Miocic to claim the UFC heavyweight championship. The win should have set up a superfight between Ngannou and light heavyweight GOAT Jon Jones, however, immediately following UFC 260, UFC President Dana White began throwing cold water on that idea.
Following Ngannou’s win, Jones sent out a Tweet saying “Show me the money,” perhaps referencing the failed negotiations last year between him and the UFC for an Ngannou superfight. White was quick to use that Tweet as an opportunity to call into question whether Jones really wants the fight or not, which upset Jones tremendously.

Jose Aldo is going after big fights in the UFC.
Back to the winning column after almost two years with a victory over Marlon Vera this past December, Aldo told MMA Fighting he wants to stare across the octagon at Dominick Cruz next sometime in 2021.
Both legends are former WEC champions, Aldo and Cruz were the inaugural titleholders in the UFC featherweight and bantamweight divisions, respectively, and now they compete at 135 pounds.
“It’s a big fight to make, Dominick and me, because of our importance [in the sport],” Aldo said. “We were both WEC champions and then came to the UFC as champions, so it’s a big fight to make.”

Aljamain Sterling Feels Petr Yan Is Being "Rewarded" For Rulebreaking

Aljamain Sterling doesn’t seem to believe the punishment is fitting the crime for Petr Yan after his disqualifying knee at UFC 259.
Aljamain Sterling has expressed a willingness to run it back with Petr Yan after the controversial ending to their first bantamweight title bout at UFC 259, but he doesn’t seem too happy about it. Yan was disqualified after landing an illegal knee to Sterling at UFC 259, thus costing him the bantamweight title.
The new champion has been the subject to doubt and criticism regarding the degree to which he was really impacted by the knee, perhaps even subject to more public ire than Yan himself who committed the foul. Public perception aside, Sterling believes that Yan is getting let off the hook by those with the actual authority to hand out consequences for breaking the rules (transcription by Cole Shelton).
