The George Floyd mural near downtown Phoenix is gone. The mural, painted by longtime Phoenix artist Jeremie "Bacpac" Franko, was covered with beige paint by the artist Friday morning. "I have to do what white people are not able to do very well and that is give up the platform," Franko said. The mural was located on an Oak Street block wall in the Phoenix Coronado district and featured Floyd's face on a $20 bill with the hashtag #the_price_of_black_lives above it. Floyd was arrested by Minneapolis police on May 25, 2020, after a convenience store clerk alleged that Floyd used a counterfeit $20 bill to make a purchase.
