Fired Teacher Sues, Alleges Retaliation


   A former Española Valley High School teacher is suing the District alleging racial discrimination and retaliation after losing his teaching license in 2019.
    John Casias filed the lawsuit Dec. 3, 2020 against Española Public Schools in First Judicial District Court.
    Casias alleges he was given an unfair punishment that resulted in him losing his teaching license after raising concerns with the principal.
    The complaint alleges that in May 2019, Casias confronted the High School principal, at the time Robert Archuleta, about the way he was treating older teachers. According to the complaint, Casias “was also aware of the principal forcing older teachers out of employment.” ....
