Nine years ago, Atkins published Lullaby, his first novel about Boston private detective Spenser. Robert B. Parker, Spenser’s creator and the beloved author of 39 bestselling novels about the wisecracking tough guy, died in 2010, and Parker’s family and publisher chose Atkins, an accomplished crime fiction writer, to continue the series. He’s done so seamlessly. Atkins, who used to be a reporter for the then-St. Petersburg Times and the Tampa Tribune, has written a new Spenser book every year since 2012, as well as one per year in his own series about Mississippi sheriff Quinn Colson (most recently The Revelators ). ....
