Vodafone : MasMovil in talks on possible merger with Vodafone's Spanish unit - report

MADRID (Reuters) - Spanish telecom operator MasMovil has started talks over a possible merger with the Spanish unit of U.K.-based telecom operator Vodafone, newspaper Expansion reported, citing sources with knowledge of the process.
MasMovil, which was taken over by three buyout funds including KKR last year, has set a first valuation of the Vodafone unit at 7.5 billion euros ($8.96 billion), the newspaper said.
Expansion did not say who would control the merged entity if a merger proceeded.
A MasMovil spokesman said he could not immediately comment, while a spokesman for Vodafone declined to comment.
Back in September, MasMovil and its private equity owners denied a previous press report about merger talks between the two rival telecom operators. ....

Development of wahi tapu land on Whakatāne s coast could be stalled by iwi occupation after commissioners consented to a 240-section housing subdivision and retirement village next to an ancient urupa.
Kaitiaki of the Opihi Whanaungakore urupa, Rapata Kopae, said urupa trustees were considering how to stop the development including court action, a public information campaign or occupation of the land. ....

Hermiston History: Potato chip company announces plans

Nalley’s Canada Limited and the Hermiston Development Corporation announced Monday that Nalley’s intends to use Lamb Weston’s Hermiston Plant No. 2 to make potato chips in Hermiston.
Hermiston beat out two other sites, one in Pasco, Wash., and the other in Salem, for the plant.
Nalley’s chairman Patrick Lindenbach told the state’s economic development department that the company and Lamb Weston have reached an “agreement in principal” to lease the facility.
Nalley’s said they hope to begin operations in June.
