Roger life b.b.c. Radio messy site. Supposed to do and so little time today we are probably a final call now because it s seen like a 12 and a half minutes before 2 and of course wait in the wings might Shepard with the best country music it was at the best music on radios you saw it on beyond I would say. You know fear of contradiction that when a cracking show with market country music is your thing then you don t miss that 2 o clock today Mike Shepard with sounds country we ve got to cram an awful lot in between now and 2 though including revealing all my own money to get you a ticket because God bless her she s been freezing and she couldn t believe this was t.v. And she got about 27 layers on she looked at Mitchell a man Oh yeah but it s all that I was around because it s not true although to be honest in the studio ever saw the gunman with the Asian system. God bless her she s just goosebumps on accused comes to market as a come in and tell you a mystery single was always never 5 minutes. circles that you find in the eyes of him. That is why not go with us because while I should say. The windows of your mind of course in the film you don t yes I can fill you with it because Thomas Crown Affair coasts stay. Even Queen was if I don t know it was if he was just seen right time time time to him by Mary how well you have met and it made me an uncle thank you very much indeed for the for the Cole attack such a thing it is now thank you for the love become it as well and now what I m going to do more is some cookie guarantee that I m on on the show that s 3 weeks and I m here Mary I promise you more some coke and the song the only one I m going to next Saturday for you can you mean Saturday merry 12 o clock seventy s out and I m going to do you don t have the more misty blue will play that in the seventy s on next Saturday we between 12 and one so right until we make a date but me Diary Ok because. If you don t we are and i do we can give us a call make sure for you all right that s a deal thank you very much indeed for that one let s say would you I would do well mole and then I ll get Jade Cohen let you know who mystery single was if indeed you did work it out straight away like many of you did and talking to Frankie by the way which was before if you haven t withdrawal symptoms already I m not surprised for less because you know he is it s a ladies of a particular age and background he is a bit of a you know a love attraction on Iowa will no way around it absolutely play the song for you to remind you of him because this is a song that he always plays with the hideaways. So A Motown classic as I stop a song the How Do ways always finish the set with Pepsi now the way you did on the Cafe ghostly that got the place rocking for those of you who are missing Frankie said that he will return a promise she had just given a few weeks off for good behavior Jade how he did this woman yeah this is yet put him back it would be really chilly I need to see should Fergus but I don t think it is a bit cool but you know he s been told that went under since then it s going on I m just cold you know he said on the plane you know the things that I think this is now what you know we played. Upon the roof is probably actually either a foot. Ruefully I wanted to know who it was wasn t the Drifters it wasn t any Lynch It wasn t any of the other great guesses we had was improved Willis. But a lot of people to get it really didn t like a lot of people got it right the m.k. Anyone you d ever heard of no I didn t think something. About ever song s called Tie a Yellow Ribbon Around the old oak tree now candied are now what are you doing someday or not 3 times on the ceiling if you want me now on the side effects that s all right very tender years and years and these are way way for you probably before you don t even thought about you know a lot about long ago and what reason I ask you because there s a band called Dawn in the early seventy s on hits of all those songs that was mentioned on this jump when I was that we played was the lead single with them Ok but prior to last about 10 years early in the sixty s he had a solo career Ok when he had a few hits as well and his name was Tony Orlando and he thought it was Ted we all know we know without all those make any difference it was still him and his version of up on the roof Ok well you know I don t get it all done finished I think is the most won t work still he is still going to go against you as well on my ship but on the way to the time we got about 4 minutes to it yeah had to try. Actually go play some more of your favorite movies Saturday and Sunday nights. Like you ever did to get it up they were just . Saturday morning. Thank you see radio my son. Good morning to you it is only with you for the final 56 hours of the program this morning don t forget you can get in touch you can give me a call on our 870. 3 double 3 you can bowl a b.b.c. . You can text. Message to the Web And as I always say please please put your you name on because a lot people forget to put your name on when you sending a text it all becomes a little bit impersonal in this taking a look at the what s on. The. That s a big Radley s and wake up it s a beautiful morning Weatherly s quite a beautiful morning but it s not bad not bad and thanks for the phone calls I said it s the final 56 hours of the program Paul Gary now he fell off his choice of going to be a Tuesday cause it was the final 56 minutes of the program and we re now down to the final 53 So good morning it s Saturday morning it is the 5th of October and 1st thing this morning I mentioned earlier on Actually can you remember what you were doing this day last year well I can actually because it was the Giants we had they had the 4 Johns for the John spectacle from the 4th to the 7th of October last year so it started on the 4th with the little boy giant. Who was asleep in St George s Hall on the Friday morning the big giant he was found washed up on the beach at New Brighton by 4 perch rock we were there we had to snare the insurance program live from there and over in Liverpool we had reporters covering the progress of the little boys he woke up outside St George s Hall Saturday. Sat in for make because I was out about reporting on the Giants I remember the most amazing morning I saw the little boy wake up at Queen s dark the little boy in the dog wake up an amazing show they did and then I went through to Salthouse talk to see the giant the man giant being craned off the little pontoon that he had there and on to the side and start the progress through and then we followed it right the way through the day on Saturday down to. The graving docks the old graving dock side where we had the session in the evening and then on the Sunday of course that was the finale and it was such a privilege to be involved and work with the people involved the organizers principally Liverpool City Council s events team because with these things Ok they re with us for 4 days but we re planning on these for months and months and months and sometimes you ve sworn to secrecy with things because we knew that on the Sunday there was going to be the final visit of the little girl giant We couldn t see anything we had to add to get me keeping me gob shut it was it was incredible but the crowds the sheer scale of the numbers of people that were out on the streets of both Will and then principally of course Liverpool because there would be more crowds it was a Saturday and Sunday that it was in Liverpool more people available to to get to go along and it was at the most amazing I ve never seen so many people. More complex before I have to say. We had to completely rethink what we were doing on the Sunday because we had to get our teams of people out earlier because otherwise we wouldn t be able to get them through the crowds to get them where they needed to be so I was in and on the front 5 o clock on the Sunday rewriting everything phoning people getting them out of bed but it s all really well worth it as well and while I was away. I know just there was an award given to 2 people by the Chief Constable of Merseyside these are civilians they work for livable city council but it was in recognition of the work that they do for the people of Merseyside and they work for city council events team in the names mean nothing to you Susan Lee and Jenna Joel Jen folding and they are 2 people who are part of the most on issuing team you can imagine who the Liverpool City events team who put on these huge spectacles whether it be the the reality of Wales that we had on Thursday of this week it s all to be broadcasting from whether it be the Giants whether it be any of the big events and these are the people who get they work on this for months and months possibly over a year and then in the case of Susan Leigh who got this commendation she never even saw any of it because she was still keeping Bootle in the police what they call silver control the old 40th birthday so she couldn t even go out and celebrate that but it was a wonderful accolade these 2 people who do so much for the events of the city in the wider area got a mention So congratulations to Sudanese and Jen folding and it s been an absolute privilege working with them an essential. Jessica who s read the news said just can t wait for the next big event bring it all. Mean the same begging me to call you know. Beg me to call as well Gary do it with me good morning how are you all very well and yourself. Nice to be back at the under the. People Well the probably all old people but not everybody can say that after the holidays the quite keen to go back to work because actually it s all right you know the play Yeah the people I figure enjoy our jobs start like they were very lucky because a lot sarong for that because well next thing they say when the doc. Yeah you just have any loss on it so and of course barely got a lot sort of the next room with basically But if it was like. Well I mean the b.b.c. Tends to get was in the dark most you. Know I like you know coming in on Saturday morning condemns the studio usually about Tempest quote about 5 just yes or nobody broken anything and you know most of the year it s dark so I ve got to put the lights on just just to wake me also. Did it do you to keep him under control and you know it s quite difficult to Nick in the you know you re after your lovely fella is but yeah a guess a bit excitable sometimes yes I mean he could give him a vine the comedian who is the king of online or yeah I mean you know you re in an economic could out out one line m.b.a. Yeah. Yeah yeah go us a little quips the did well it was a little comebacks and things like about you know you bring it to me dodges. About about 4 packets. Nothing improper addictive I know you know it brings me to packets everywhere every time is a. Dodgy So I go home from the holidays on Monday I did have a good time of the time I actually thought it was one of those things because we know the area so you don t feel obliged to see too much but I made a point of saying to Lynn there are things here that you have never seen even though your family has lived here had connections for over 30 years you ve seen the beach and everything so we went we went to one place that I went to when I was a kid when the parents it s a Greek a Greek and Roman settlement start of Greeks they went to the Roman and I went there about 40 years ago the 1st time and it s changed a little bit not much as you would imagine is obviously still ruins but they expose a lot more than out of it do an audiotape or was great walking around and seeing how the Roman years ago here we go home on Monday afternoon mid-afternoon look at a quite nice flight time so go into the house and it s cold what have you and. There were so you know it s there and it was a bit miserable it wasn t right whatever and then open the fridge the like didn t come on. The fuse had tripped it up before most of it about 3 or 4 days a look at me not to be in a holiday because the fridge freezer so all of the stuff in the freezer melted so down to really strong black baby. Get everything in there get it straight to the tip because the bin isn t going to be collected. So that was and then so then how to clean it thank yourself little mishap start yourself. Up and when you go to the last hour did you get a passport or something knows linseed Yeah what a memory she had she had a granddaughter s passport that the roads just remember you got. You also write stories to tell but I think what it is I think most people do these things but I think most people keep them quite fond of age and I m not embarrassed. About all the world I m known like Mr b. Yeah that s what I ll call you Mr b. Anyway don t see it s about time that we introduce you with the big music. B.b.c. Radio and I see. The way they tell me to go travel. So p. Go Gary thank you. So very quiet out there this was all the work of a bucket which. We have got that contraflow resurfacing work taking place over a between you ferry Rockferry bypass there that s actually between valves and road down to Kumble town broadcasts and the camel that s roundabout there and that s about the only major thing on the road really a couple of matches taking place today Liverpool take a less to situate this situation. In the Premier League football match Let s kick it off at 3 pm so I do expect it to be a lot busier around the area there I m sure Mir Rovers take on Shrewsbury Town they re in a league football match of Prince and part they re kicking off a 3 o clock as well so actually traffic around the area there especially around border road Singleton Avenue and would Church Row but everything else is looking Ok at the minute but if you kind of datas it be safe and legal if you spot anything give us a call on the Travel on which is I want 517140953 b.b.c. Maybe I ll speak today. People wonder why I m losing. Why are you so happy what s going on I d like a. Nice. Way to what. You do you don t have to tell us I want to complain. Oh the irony. I. Hear. He s not. The best with d.c. He s. Got a fantastic week I have because it came back from holidays and then I had a day before came back into work and I did all the Washington and I ve been catching up with my mates here and work for the last 3 days so what could be better than that we ve got the paths in time Stephen guy coming up very shortly but before that we ll go. How long will this last. Movement in 10 seconds. Good morning to Steven guy of West Davi society you may have gathered from the noises in the background that we have swapped to the sylvan setting of Beacon Hill in West. A rather noisy locations we continue our paths in times where we wrote me the Saturday morning Stephen Well back in the central Liverpool were in all London Road up in a building which I ve always liked subtle between Greek Street and hot street just a little bit down from t.j. Hughes s it s a red brick building and terra cotta is probably Ruan brick which was spoken about before on this a clock. On Sadly the clock is stopped. 5 past 630 on date all sorts of broke impediments and things but sadly. We hope somebody moves into this market an idea to use it it dates from 899 I remember it and list and sort of says what a member to say or Barclays Bank it s a 56 story building. A very large window so obviously it s used more than just a bank and I don t think the bank came until a bit later after it was built in 899 which is a great year and I was thinking 899 is the year the War Of The Worlds was written very very famous book and there s a ghost sign which we ve spoken about in the past go signs relate to long gone businesses but the signs a still there and you look up and you ll see the sign it s not very clear and certain like you can t see it but it says the Liverpool furnishing company and that s who they were they were here pretty well from when it started it was here from about 1901 of so and that was not in the Echo in in that year. The furniture go to the Liverpool furnishing company. 106 London Road Liverpool the largest cheapest some of the best this is our own old declaration which continues to hold gold and belongs to us only so I m assuming that been somewhere else before that they also had a works in hot street as well so they would have manufactured furniture that. And the business hours at the time were 9 in the morning till 8 o clock at night weekdays Saturdays 9 till 6 London Road has always been a bustling shopping area which it remains to this day and of course there s a market in this wild outside stalls This was quite a popular company but I looked it up you know you look it up in the old directories and things the furnishing of a house strong remarks by the judge. And this was in the De Kedar all costs and lends to John Sutton Irish paper in 1902 shortly after this business moved here and it was a long group pull auction of these newspaper reports went into great depth there was all over the a debt of 9000 pounds 16 and I puts from a judgment call Robert Shuttleworth who bought furniture on high a purchase for his son William who was named married and living in a little poorly goes on this long long rambling report. Hope that went many customers like that apparently in 115 it went bust the company. Out of course and there were a number of other tenants that say Barclays Bank is actually a sign on it saying the London Road business sun tough but obviously it s empty now looking up back in 1978 it also house the Salvation Army s public relations department. The London and Manchester Assurance Company and other finance offices and I can remember about the time doing enough for Tyson feature for the eco it was further up the hill it was Cohen s furniture very well known company at one time so looking back at this and see Bush is growing out of some of the upper floors What a shame this wonderful building which So I don t think it s listed it s currently empty and let s hope that s some use is found to it in the not too distant future indeed a very fine building and what have you got planned for us next Sunday morning well we re just double I m calling it the bull ring memorial I don t know if it has a certain official name but it s about the old bull ring same time Dru s gardens. Always on a fella George as a man that one was shot go to before that of course we walk in the paths in time with Steven guy of West Darby society now said there was a way for a couple of weeks go back on Monday and then listening to snotty Chicago it was on the choosing of the Wednesday morning call quite a shock really because he was doing a piece about the the potential closure for all time of the new palace amusements in New Brighton and I know that things can never stay the same and things have to change but it s if it does go which I m sure it will have to because of the the cost he was saying about the maintenance and so on the upkeep it s going to be another one of those things that have his life as a youngster growing weed I lived in Wallasey we lived in agreement so on a Saturday morning we would vary a lot so Sundays as there was only one who would very often walk down to New Brighton and initially we go to the tower grounds because the Tower Ballroom had gone I remember burning down in 69 on things on Good Friday but all the amusements were still there outside the had the the chairlift and the Tommy man s railway used to be there. And there was a boating like all that kind of stuff so we used to go and enjoy that and then eventually that went on so we d go down to the the palace the new palace that which is indoors in those days had a roof on in those days and then occasionally for a little bit of change my dad take me into the bright spot which is the amusement arcade and we go in then we d probably go and you know the show whatever those those machines were. Simple times when the easy pleasures things have to change in that things have to move on it was just really quite a shock to study going around and talking to David Wilkie whose families owned it for goodness knows how long forever and thinking that it could be could be the end of one of my ties to child is a great time down there New Brighton in those days well I have to say I don t know if you ve brought in the past 5 years they ve lived with it over the past 10 years or so he says they turned into what they call marine points and so on they ve done an absolutely fantastic job and it looks really good but. The blue barrel. And the good parts now can only apologize my mind Jingles disappeared for this next feature Gary. Questions and. I ll hopefully have it back fi for next week but in the mean time. It is time for there are more questions than answers and this is the part of the show where we trying to get to the bottom of those questions that you ve always wanted to know the answer to maybe something that s been bugging you ever Yeah should be why it s not the way you days yeah sort of thing now you ve got one here now who said this was this was last week right and we don t know but I ll bet a lot been chatting up in chatting about this will be meit s this way what you say you ve done research I ve done some research and they ve got they ve got some theories on this one so call in from Ormskirk rang me last week he says they all get together in the pub as you do with your mates Yeah he said Right so your the top now on going to be at the North Pole because ya want to be at the top of the world so I m at the top of the world yeah and you re down in the South Pole in the bottom of the world which is the warmest wanted by pretty cold at night I think of cold out there Ok they ll be warm it doesn t matter now does the moment on the other but it doesn t matter but anyway I m going to be at one end of the world you re going to but you re the we re going to drill a hole a big big hole right through the center of the. Sun and totally This is partly theory as a going to be a hell of a big deal I don t that I sell I m not being cute There you go oh they think I wash our eye level by the way. So we re going to so basically then we re going to we re going to get the lover in the middle of the world in the middle of the planet forget the lover and everything you know that you know right so we just got a great big hole going through the world through the through the through the earth right you know right through the set in Tokyo it s a sense of I m going to drop a huge chunk of concrete. Right from from my end from the north from the north and that s going to go hurtling down through the earth and you wear your standard that you by your hole at the other end thank you part will it will it will it just shoots out the all in Lot fly up into the air. I mean where does it go well I mean it be very difficult for us to test this wouldn t let s be a law which needs a damn long drawn out. Well what theory of you how well. Make sure you see she said she reckons because of gravity it will get to the center of the bench and then but she doesn t record will go any further she thinks it will stop in the center of the earth but then but then if you were trying to climb down if I was got a great big long ladder that I wanted to go down to your bar Malata down to you yeah I want to get past this chunk of concrete if it was in the way. You ve clearly thought about this a lot and you know yes so she seems to think gravity would take over so it gets so far you get halfway and then it stops Yes So it s going to just hover in the middle of the earth and not go anywhere else and if you had any other theories any counter when there is one when the earth turns around yeah Will it come back to me again. You mean what it takes when you rotates round Well it will there with a chunk of concrete come back to me again I ve got a level with you I don t know this this was bothering calling from Ormskirk and has been for years apparently if anyone has an answer to call him from exposure very much theoretical This really is no way you can prove you know variously 08073193 double 3 I ve got another one for you sort of related to oh really you know in the northern hemisphere the water goes down the plughole one way yeah clock clocks last. As in yeah when there s always a clock and then in the southern hemisphere trailer it goes on to quote what I want to see Roger Moore No this one because he spent a lot of time in Australia being an honorary Australian You mean Banani l.z. Yeah yeah so so anyway listen to my question I guess All right so so in the northern hemisphere it goes clockwise in the southern hemisphere it goes anticlockwise is the real point where it goes straight and does it. Well yeah that isn t necessary since it is similar to drug you know concretely the Earth should think about there s got to be a point where it changes. It s the equator isn t it so we need somebody from the equator to ring. The equator you only go straight just go so so basically you take it you take the plug out of the secure philosophically water you take the plug out yeah you know we see it like going that way you know clockwise or that way . Or the other why counterclockwise is there is there anywhere in the world where you would take the plug out of the sink and it just goes yeah just straight down the plughole no mass and there s no swirls there s no swells whatsoever straight down the plughole So that s that s kind of related but not really so we ve got the we ve got the we ve got the wrong we ve got the whole through the world dropping a great big chunk of rock yeah where does it go yeah or on which what and where does where does the water not go either way. I mean just change just but it can kind of kind of imagine if you lived on one side of the street where it was going down clockwise Yeah you lived on your the saw the street where I went on to clockwise I think that was unlikely but what it would it could but it s got a bloody says got to be a point so what about if you went into the middle of the street. Going straight to it it just what if you re right what do I wait 100 something or 933 can you help us out with either of these poses this morning I ve got one more as well hold my no not might do that later on I think we ve got enough on our plate right now. Radio. First c I would do an on the road so here s some I m 15. Thanks Paul Haydock the road queuing that s between the m 623 and Liverpool Road no accidents reported but it is looking very busy there at the moment as well we ve got the usual congestion on Telegraph Road that s around Pen s b. Radio Merseyside. As yourself. On the way less. Don t worry about a thing just 3 little birds on b.b.c. Radio there are more questions than answers is what we re doing at the moment and we got a couple of questions on the go at the 1st one Gary was. Calling from last week wanted to know if we drilled a hole right through the center of the earth from the top to the bottom one of us is at the top and one of us is down the bottom and we drop a huge chunk of concrete down there yeah where does it go will it will it go all the way from from one side and fall out of the earth the other side and if it does get to the earth on the other saw Does it fly out of the hole or the chute back or does it or does it come back and Sean from Seaforth go on about that and he said he said gee to gravity it will go no further than the center of the earth which is what makes Tracy said gee I think it will stop there just in in the center but like Sean said the buffeting thing was I mentioned about going down a ladder because I through the center of the globe Yeah yeah so so basically we ve got a very long ladder now yeah one of those expendable ones yeah yeah yeah yeah. And I m walking down you re in the other end so I m walking down to meet you you know how the cops say and things like that so I m walking down the ladder Ok yeah come from the top down when I gets your end. Do I do I emerge from the hole head 1st or am I upside down because if I emerge with if I emerge with my head 1st yes where where if I ve stayed on that ladder where how where has it turned around where I ve turned around to face the little disappointing isn t it yeah but but I ve let But I ve left my end of the world feet 1st yeah but that s a waste of the turning is your mood yeah look because you re all your demonstrating this week your at your the other end of the world so your lot this and your fate are all parent they Ya know I see you mean so your upside down to me aren t you I m the right way up to me or the right way up to you but you know you re the wrong way round so when you get some me are you upside down or so and so or so on coming down so basically we should really be feet to feet your face should be facing my feet are you convinced that that will be the case I think you would I think I would emerge from the hole. First stop but. I think what the 1st taken not to one time for 2nd I think the 1st bit what Sean sad made sense that it won t go any further because the gravity Yeah but the step ladder thing now is is is puzzling me we re going to where another quite where which Where would you turn around so there I emerge from the hole head 1st rather than feet 1st if anyone knows no 873-1003 double threat the other question was. Water goes down warm way down the plughole clockwise in the northern hemisphere Yeah right but it goes down the opposite way anticlockwise in the southern hemisphere so my poser was it s the report where it changes and goes through the wire or goes straight its report where it s sort of equal the equator in fact is in its own sink rate that s something to do with the gravitational pull as well well. Liddy inane style says good morning this is going to blow your mind now this one. That was interesting about water turning in different directions when I went to New Zealand I immediately turn the tap on and saw it of course now I ve never been one to flush the toilet and no I ve never been down under so to speak and I ve never I ve never seen it go the other way you know makes sense. She says though but what was funny or strange was when I went to my mother in Holland this is where it gets a bit weird and she turned the tap on in the kitchen and then shouted lady please help me I feel so very dizzy she pointed at the plug hole and I saw that the water was running down the wrong way why well the the opposite way to what it should have been running down I assume and that s why she felt dizzy it only lasted a few seconds and we never found out why this happened. Only that doesn t answer the questions but expires marry me I don t know if you have any answers to this one than about well why don t trailers only David from hard knew who agrees that in theory along the equator the water should flow straight down but obviously one of us needs to go and test this so right it s not so hot along the equator and so on Bugsy and not one I m going let me just get on me I pay a taxi to the equator or it s quite expensive and it s really quite pricey Yeah you might you think you don t have the baby seal cover I might not do that now they might not do that so well I mean I mean we don t approve it and I ll be real no not really and just one final quick poser for you here because you know you ve got about 10 minutes left of this feature and I gotta go thinking about the sure the day because I went to the loo right you know if you did based learning where you said I got a revelation to buy you can you tell me you got your pants on the inside out No no no. And as soon as I m washing my hands right yeah right there s a mirror there yeah and I caught sight of the top of my head oh yeah the shiny And yeah the bought me bald spot headphone hair in a guy I m going to be. Thin on top and. Got me thinking right you know you know your bald spot where anyone is bold Yeah right you bold spot tends to be shiny very shallow Yeah so what I want to know is why is your head shiny when you go bold right where you go in your face my face it is actually posed as no it s not you know I my face isn t shiny Well maybe yes maybe your skin tone do your hair is more law because it s been covered over a small lot baby skin. But some people have been bold for 30 years so it s been exposed for 30 years but it still shines on your face the skin on your face is not shiny So why but when people are bold. Bold or bold. Bold in a bold bold. Bar just don t know where. You are looking shiny red He s always been he s got a really shiny pretty innocent got a shiny face so why why is that 073193 double 3 and you can help us out with the other. I mean we could do with taking a photo to prove how Johnny is. Saying and stole away. To say. a. Long a song. Called . Let s. Look you ll. Lady Ga Ga are messy chair from Sue in we re all who says Can you wish my daughter Helen a happy birthday for today she is 32 this time last year she was one of the helpers with the Giants and enjoyed the whole weekend night scary to think remember you know what I m going to say this time last year she was 31 well that is true that is true but do you remember sitting outside of the hall one little did when really when China was coming up the road yeah yeah yeah yeah you put a long record on so we could run out so I didn t wait which took some photos we didn t even hear spend a year or so have a great a while and I write it s time for there are more questions than answers again a few on the guy here at one of them Ace Why is it when the water goes down the poor coal one way in the northern hemisphere and the other way in the southern hemisphere is there a point where it goes straight. The water that is down the protocols down the plan and want to hear from John from Lisa who says by stirring the water in a sink you can make water go down in the wrong direction however it will stop midway and go down the right way I ve also stood on the equator line in South Uganda to me it seemed to just go shout the water that is. Go shout Yeah I ll freeze pole and you can make it go either way but it was pretty sluggish . So that s what happened oh I don t want to go anywhere where it s lossless he said well he just wanted to doesn t go so there s that so it s not kind of confirming my suspicion that I don t really go along the way also on the equator Yeah it wouldn t really go either way would it then just pushes anything on the bald head about and you I think on the ball last night no knows nothing about Shawnee bounces Yeah so I did the question that I was Why is it that when you go bald your head shines what you know and he s obviously it s exposed skin isn t it but other exposed skin on your face doesn t shine you think it s going to do with where x. Head follicles were maybe all day and the oil in your skin because the only sign I shave my beard I don t think my work because you heard your hair can get your hair can get greasy Karnit but your beard can get greasy can. I do you didn t if you didn t wash you be it where you were it would get the wooden it all is supposed to but not as much but probably not as much as your hair maybe because of that maybe on your head this because there s more the smaller or oil follicles on your head like that s why the head shines maybe when you has gone it s still the oil is still produced when you head maybe when I m out announce it or not on any Finally your your globe question well yeah so so we ve we ve we ve gone to the drill now right Ok so basically drilling down Ok your standard user and your the drill where where you when you see the drill come through it will actually come up and you ll see that you ll see the earth go. I m a big drill come through that s me drilling from the other end yeah it will become more I m standing yeah so so cool so they re not going to be larger and I walk down yeah and so well will you come out then but you know what we think in feet 1st All right 1st night we still don t know who s nobody I m not that is going to be another one now which which is going to baffle me let me add lights so if you. You know I m just trying just trying to work this out you re going down the ladder when you 1st get on the lot and I m on a large like you normally would walk you down I m not going down the line of but you re going to the user end of the guard and I don t get off the lodge I stay on the ladder and I walk in all the way Dale is puzzling you this isn t it but you know more about you drill more drill will will come through the comp through the earth I got to go what would your see Marjoe come through in that case you will come up the ladder Yeah but what where does the where do I Where does it I don t know how do I suddenly stop and turn around this is going to go in my attic I don t know I don t know I m going to scrap this picture I ll just this is giving me. This weight loss baffled me right there where just where is the point where I ve somehow turned around on the ladder even though even though I haven t Would it be the would it be the would it be the equator. Yeah but how but how do you want to turn around but I don t know I don t know I don t know it s because because Jane from Kensington said I ll come out come up a lot of feet 1st I said well how could I do that also cause bicycle lifted me that I would go to the strength of my seat I think you know how to love my head 1st yeah but I ve left my own fate I know why nobody is a bit like the drill anyway I was because you re not got much more time to know there s. . We want your good news story as well 807-3193 double frame people who bring us good news every week of the A.T.M. They always have a piece of good news every week and here is Joe Cross now with this week s. Ways we ve got another story regarding one of our listeners a little bit of good news so sometimes our listeners just ring us for a bit of advice and we can help them over the phone and that might be the end of it and that s what happened to this particular lady so she had ordered a sofa from an independent retailer and once she received it she was a bit concerned because it didn t seem right the so fur was had lumps and bumps in places that really a sofa shouldn t have so she telephones the shop itself was told that an inspector would go along and look to see what the issue was he did this and he said that they could fix it but even once it s been fixed it wasn t going to be perfect and she paid a lot of money for it and did understandably want the safer to be perfect wasn t happy so thank you and that was the end of it from her point of view rang us up and said What can I now do and we told her what her rights were and sometimes that s all you need to know to be armed with a bit of information that can. The trick we told her to put it in writing which she did put it in writing explained what her rights well one to the new sofa and lo and behold they then agrees to do this for us she was absolutely delighted it certainly was good news so if anybody needs our help it s just a bit of advice then please do give us a ring or you can pop in and say thanks very much Paul and. Yeah great team. Brings us the good news every week if you want to give me a call given call from 10 o clock tomorrow morning they ll help you out if they can help you directly they will always point you in the right direction. Whether on a Sunday morning. Them back or bagels of the moments. If you know what song is give us a call 807-3193 double 3. To Exactly what is called somewhere only we know I m going to say good morning to Norman Cali Norma is involved in a service that takes place every so often at the the Anglican Cathedral lady topical embracing hope and there was give it a bit of a plug our DAYBREAK Photo but she mailed in to say thanks very much for promote Now we have $34.00 people at the service and it was taking place as the Anglican Cathedral will let you know when the next one is it s aimed at those people who ve lost or a child doesn t have to be a direct relative might be a friend or an ounce here and uncle or something but I will let you know when that is but good news that the 34 people who felt the that they could come along to that even though obviously the instigation of that was was a very sad event of things pretty much normal Calley for letting us know about that when we still don t back when Beatles you ve got about 15 minutes to tell us what this song is. A whole 3 seconds today we ve made it really hearts obviously not made it completely impossible because some people have got it right so far John in Dove coats got it right Allen in Bootle Who Else Got A Robby and Wes Kirby s got it right but we ve got quite a number of wrong answers. Are 807-3193 double 3 of you think you know the answer nickel is taken the calls now Christmas is coming the goose is getting fatter as they say and what I thought we do is a little little feature every week about aspect of Christmas and this week I want to look at the picture that we have today of Father Christmas actually comes from that house Father Christmas always had a red coat and I knew exactly the by. And that I could set on this trial one of my blue buds guy colleagues Elaine Allen I thought are given the task go on find out is Father Christmas a red coats simply attached to Coca-Cola because that s what seems to be the case there s no people say that s where they came from so let s see what Elaine has got a side coming up to Christmas I just thought I d look into whether the story of Father Christmas is red suit is down to Coca-Cola as a lot of people insist and the answer is not as straightforward as you imagine and it comes down to the manager of the British Father Christmas and the American Santa Clause up until the beginning of the 20th century Britain had Father Christmas who dressed in a variety of colored costumes including green brown and red and Dickens A Christmas Carol the ghost of Christmas present is a sort of Father Christmas dressed in green with a holly wreath on his head Father Christmas was originally part of an old English midwinter festival normally dressed in green which was a sign of the coming spring as Christmas is around the winter solstice the American Santa Claus was always dressed in red in 1915 the 7 Oaks Chronicle reported that the majority of children today do not know of any difference between our Old Father Christmas and the comparatively new Santa Clause as by both wearing the same garb they have affected a happy compromise. It took many years for illustrators to agree the Father Christmas costume should be put trade as red although that was the most common color mass media approval came following an intense Coca-Cola advertising campaign in 1930 so that s why the myth started about Father Christmas taking its colors from Coca-Cola There we go thanks very much Elaine God you re going to be looking at another feature of Christmas next week it was the then back with Beatles . 08073193 devil 3 if you think you know what that Beatles song is backwards and about so with time in 12 minutes time Nicolette will be joining me in the studio to tell me what the answer is our. Best. Guess. Yeah I was. Great song read in Netherton all got it right to die going to give you the answer in about 10 minutes time. And after the transport minister Joe Johnson resigned he claims Britain is on the brink of the greatest crisis since the 2nd World War Damian Green is the former 1st secretary of state I think a 2nd referendum would be divisive but it wouldn t be decisive what happens the day after all the evidence is that the country is still more or less split down the middle so we would either get the same result again or there might be a narrow main victory next time which point why does that have any more validity than the result we ve just chucked away northern says it will only be able to run 30 percent of its usual services to to strike action today is the 35th walkout by the are empty Union in an ongoing row over the role of guards on trains Tony value has vowed to punch Alexander Lucic really hard in the face in their world cruiserweight battle tonight the pair go head to head in Manchester in Bel Hughes final fight with you sick the holder of 5 belts.

Drive we move. On our quiz question for you this afternoon it s the pharmacist birthday today Henry Winkler is 73 famous for Happy Days which had a number of spin off shows in. Including this one which started each episode like this. All we want you to do is now you in the T.V. Show. 170. 3 on the text of the starting a message. That Such. Like. From. What we re trying to get hold of I m actually hoping to do an interview with him possibly but as you can imagine he s a very busy man and that is our house it s 9 minutes past 5 I hope your achieved has been going OK It s salty with drive time through until 6 o clock on the way as well. Between 6 and 7 and a very busy show for you on that score as well to come between 6 and 7 Stay tuned for the. First things 1st go to all main news story this hour and it s a story that is quite depressing really on the face of. Or it is warning that children who ve been excluded from school may be at serious risk of becoming involved in knife crime and youth violence research by Bernardo says found that 47 councils in England had no spaces in people referral units which look after Exploited Children who James Riley is a former probation officer from Merseyside who runs the get away and stay safe campaign which teaches young people about the dangers of gangs and knife crime and I asked him what he makes of the research. And that s not James Riley as you can probably tell what song we ve already played I tell you while trying to do that again I asked him what he makes of the research and understand how a link will be made and so for example a young person is excluded from from mainstream education they would then off on the off the place and people who fail unit which means they could be associated with all the young people who may have behavioral problems for those who are on 14 or not to get get a place that people are a fair unit that that means they are sometimes left in limbo. Which means they aren t that they are that they then after time on hands their life is not structured maybe hung around a bit more on the streets and not wings where they rest in that they could associate with other individuals in the community we may be involved in low level antisocial behavior gangs in the level to abuse or low level talk supply when whenever things happen and often there is a violence and surrounding those issues it s quite strong to say that those that are excluded from school you don t end up in a referral unit are going to go on to be involved in knife crime and youth violence I was not yeah I think it would be unfair to label lows if the next clue than maybe suggesting that they are. High risk of being involved in knife crime there s probably an increased risk but to say they are high risk and to label those young people in my opinion I think would be very unfair or you do a lot of work in the people referral units I mean one of the ages of young people who are that So in the people who fail us are aware that it may decide to have people we fail units for a primary skills those M M I also weigh in the people who fail units for secondary school children as well how important all by what kind of role to the reply that my act being to these units is a very positive experience I think the teaching stuff they are fantastic. That he committed Emma what they provide is they provide a yearly. Alaina next beings which is different in theme education mainstream education is not is nothing everyone on these provides an alternative education which may be so in some in some situations less classroom based both the children still receive all the young people still receive. A good education do you think the people referral units get a bad press in my opinion there are reports out there which give people who fear units of passport I think it s on the I think it can be unfair especially from my experience and I think more people should understand this those young people are going to the people with their units have a evidence issues or problems in within mainstream education which And it s felt that it s better dealt with in the people who fail unit so often again and at different you know not your normal young person who s in a mainstream education nor most like where to use it s funding the problem but I mean because it s quite focused there s nothing the class sizes are quite small so but it s not cheap all I would say my only comment we re about foreigners the whole education system needs to be from the problem it s all about stats mainstream alternative providers and people who fail units in the people you ve failed us the class classes the selection a lot a lot lot smaller some class size maybe 6 to 8 pupils maybe maybe 10 peoples with Iraq a mainstream education mainstream class that might have 25 or 35 people and you think if there was more places that it would help in the overall battle against knife crime I d say it would help in seams of addressing the educational needs of of young people in Liverpool to hear that they are young people out there who are not and not in education or training at school age because there isn t enough places proves that the system the system we are in is wrong because every young person should be given every opportunity to achieve their tent. And if there s not enough places for your people in this city in education and the system is broken somewhere that s James Riley a former probation officer talking to me earlier on your station your voice B.B.C. Radio Merseyside. Has come around a quarter past 5 let s take a check on the weather with Diane Well it s been a bit of a miscount of day today some places saw some sunshine of the places a fairly cloudy picture and where it was cloudy always felt cold in a cold and damp I would say through this evening and overnight what was sitting in out into a night that is fairly clear Oddly this little line of showers that s going to work its way through so where the showers are around obviously will be a little more cloud cover around but the general trend for tonight is really the cold want temperatures 0 to plus one for towns and cities where you ve got that little bit of a shower east of working its way through could be a little bit slippery in places 1st thing tomorrow morning but aside from that you ll see for along the coast and most of think we re all will be around 3 in 4 degrees realistically but tomorrow morning it s a combination again Apache cloud and sunny spells it s not a sparkling start to the day for everyone and again we have a line of showers that s pushing in but it kind of falls apart before it touches land for about 9 or 10 o clock on would the sun will start to come out at a decent looking day with a change in wind direction to a southerly going to feel a lot better we lose the sharp feels the temperatures 10 or 11 degrees but all in with a good deal isn t shine through the afternoon and a relatively light breeze it s not going to feel too bad if you re out and about and that s the forecast from the B.B.C. I was asking you what was the name of the show well done to Robin Aintree Alphyn for exactly P.J. And Birkenhead Travers in Hoylake we got Frank in Bootle and Susan in Wigan as well and many many more who said it was Laverne and Shirley Yes correct answer Laverne and Shirley very successful show as well earlier on I was talking about the T.V. Character Robbie box we were talking about holiday memories and I remember watching this show with Robbie box and I said I couldn t remember the name of the T.V. Show. Is big deal. Says You Can t Go Wrong with a sausage. Or a shepherd s pie and I remember he was a carrot to him big deal when he was played by Ray Brooks I used to love watching it and was probably too young because well do you remember the theme. Of. The. 1985 in a kind of. I Feel. That. Just Glennon all I am 23 minutes past 5 to more of the day s news and the Metropolitan Police are searching the garden of a house in Sutton Coldfield in the West Midlands in connection with the disappearance of Suzy Lampley in 1986 there s been no trace of the estate agents since she went to meet a client at full in west London the house belonging to the mother of the prime suspect John Canal he was never been prosecuted and the nice committing the murder K naan was convicted of the murder of Bristow only and surely banks in 1987 the current owner of the house is Philip Carey We knew the back story for many years ago and aides coming to the end of an investigation if it ends a story so be it from our point of view where were removed from the process if it put someone at rest so that s that s another good ending to the story well I m joined by the B.B.C. s former a Home Affairs Correspondent John sold them and he s now professor of media and criminal justice at the University of Bedfordshire a very good afternoon to you John you re going to afternoon 1st of all remind us who Susie Lampley was. Well very simply she was 25 working as an estate agent somebody calling himself Mr Kipper had made a phone appointment to see a house she went to meet this man we don t know what happened to that property this was in full in west London but later that day witnesses reported seeing her arguing with a man outside the house when she failed to attend another appointment that afternoon the alarm was raised and the police were called and several hours later they found her company car outside a property with the door was left open the key missing and really that s where the trail went cold she was never seen again and all these years later why the search for her body now. Well we understand that it s as a result of some fresh information the police are not giving anything away about this search where that information has come from it s not as it was the 1st time that this house in Sutton Coldfield has been looked at and there was a a cold case review back in about 20023 and the house was looked at then it seems though that at that time it was the patio of the house that was of interest nothing was found there and you know matters rested at that point now there s been some fresh information the focus of the search is on again the back of the property and specifically what may or may not be under the floor of the gallery because it seems that there was an inspection pits you know the sort that mechanics used for getting underneath cars in in the garage and the speculation and it can only be speculation at this stage is that if Susie s remains of there they may have been placed in that pit and then concreted over right if you can tell us a bit more about that the prime suspect than a follicle junk. Yes Commander Will Cain and as I think he calls himself Well there s a lot of circumstantial evidence linking him to the crime because he s known to have been in the area in West London at the time of Susan s disappearance and he fits that was produced from witnesses descriptions of the man that she was seen arguing with him for a great resemblance to to Canaan and also this name that was used to make the appointment Mr kippa Well he was known by the name Kip when he was in prison he is still in prison he was later convicted of murder of a woman also a young woman in Bristol called Shelley banks and an abduction attempted abduction and rape so he s serving 3 life sentences and the one thing we know for sure is that you know the police have interviewed him obviously a number of times and he s always maintained that he s innocent of Susan s disappearance and yet I just finally when you hear the name I think when most people of a certain generation hear the name Suzy Lampley people remember it s why do you think that why do you think that is that I mean certainly captured the public imagination in such a long lasting way yes you re right well I think there s 2 reasons either maybe more but to spring to mind I mean one is you know here s a young woman a life ahead of going you know about a fairly Monday in routine thing you know every day thousands of state agents up and down the country go to properties for a viewing and she disappears into thin air there s that and then there s the response of Suzy s parents because you know her mother particularly Diana Lampley who I met a number of times very very feisty woman was determined something positive should come out of it set up this charity with Suzy s name Suzy Lampley trust so. Nowak kept her name in the public eye and the charity did and still does a lot of very good work around workplace safety it campaigned for the legislation that made stalking a criminal offense so I think for those 2 reasons it s one of these cases that will live in the memory of John Solomon the former home affairs correspondent for the B.B.C. Thank you very much for joining me John is now the professor of media and criminal justice at the University of Bedfordshire Still to come on the program the softer name we re going to be talking about the demise of the $18.00 to $30.00 holiday it used to back in the 1990 S. It was that it was the most it was the go to holiday really for people of the age over time interest and it has dwindled most definitely to the point now where they ve they ve called the whole thing off and the last 18 to 30 holiday has flown out to Spain no more wild parties no more drinking yourself sillies I just think is that young people now they want different things but we re going to be discussing that with the Waterloo travel agent John Cooper on the way very shortly indeed 1st of all is going to check on the new show. And with those is just Robin sank Solti Good afternoon a Liverpool youth worker says it s crazy that young people are dropping out of education after research by charity reveals a lack of support across the country and bees are continuing to debate the budget with the government being challenged over its claim the era of US territory is coming to an end the Institute for Fiscal Studies is described the chancellor s budget as a bit of a gamble sports directors bought Evan cycles but Mike retailer fell into administration before immediately being sold to Mike Ashley s firm he has indicated though that up to half of the 62 stores may have to close they have one in the city center and one in Chester and a minibus donated by the Hillsborough Family Support Group is among vehicles in play equipment that have been damaged by the school the People s with special educational needs in Everton. It s basically the up to 40 need to break into the grounds of male stead school on Sunday night that s it now more in the bible isn t it 6. Travel B.B.C. As well at 536 earlier on if you re listening you will have heard that we were talking about the budget yesterday and the Chancellor offering relief on public toilets pardon the pun we ve had several people getting in touch about this Hugh inhales says it s the mindless hooligans that wrecked the toilets the cause the problems they take delight in smashing them up toilets are a vital the requirement the council stopped having them due to the cost of the repairs if they bought them back they should have an attendant there at all times and Dave in Seaforth says no one ever talks about toilets for disabled people there s hardly any accessible toilets for disabled people up and down the country even in Liverpool city center says De you ve in Seaforth on to other matters now than in the final group of club 18 to 30 holiday makers of flown to Spain as the sun comes down on the brand Thomas Cook is scrapping it of course it s famous or has been in the past for its wild parties it was originally founded in the sixty s to offer package holidays targeting young singles John Cooper is an independent travel agent from Waterloo and used to work for 18 to 30 which I never knew about you John. Quick look on the road usual places this morning watch out switch Island as well we got a story about coming up in a 2nd account McDonald will get you through this wonderful couldn t wait to get started. On line. Huma s he s. Right for the early seventies this morning while I roll my sleeves up like it s a proper job this summer Olympics. Well here they are at the coalface right Steve Coleman Welcome back to the program what are we having this morning please with the Emmy Shirley s. Challenge a one cool challenge in the one called challenge section a one called challenge coming up for you right now. That that s an easy one why isn t it and could you tell me what the code is please. It is a. Very impressive. And I know in 3 double Jake 70993 double g. If you fancy there for the one chord just. Right let s talk about switch Island small I don t know when when you last went through switch island I go through it once a week for play football on earth on a chews day and I go through at about 7 o clock quarter past 7 and you ve got to keep your wits about you then so what it s like this time of the day during the rush hour I have no idea probably not pretty bored it s a junction with no sign of the island that originally gave it its neighbor there s been criticism but the current layout is confusing and has contributed to a number of collisions there from today engineers are going to be replacing the old cat s eyes with special l.e.d. Road studs that change color to help guide motorists in the right direction how s going to work will find out in a minute and public health officials have been trying to get us to cut down on booze for many many years now so what s the new plan what s the new tactic will from today we re going to change it instead of warning is how many units of alcohol that we don t really take that much notice to the going to compare beers wines and spirits to junk food just to tell us how many calories that they contain So if you can afford 5 beers that s the equivalent to 3 burgers that kind of thing so we ll talk more about that and that s on the way. And b.b.c. Radio. Now it s one of the country s busiest motorway intersections junctions and with almost 50 collisions over the past 2 years it could also be considered one of the most dangerous too but work gets underway today on improving safety Merseyside infamous switch Island on the line to tell us what s involved is Phil Terrell project manager at highways England. Morning it was last time he went to switch island in the. Shall fail and what was your experience we actually spent some time driving all around switch island because we had to get traffic all does in place to close part of it down overnight and I drove around it when the rain was about that was spray it s as you said it s not the easiest of junctions to navigate if you go through with every day if you know if it s part of your routine to work or home from work you know you get used to that but you ve still got to keep your wits about you but what must be like for strangers who are just passing through must be around it s not that it s not the best I have to say and what we re doing is a whole package of changes to the junctions not just the the road starts with improving the signage lining we re going to resurface parts of the junction as well 3000000 pounds is being spent improving journeys in the safety. You just mention the word briefly what what s what s the biggest job that you do at the moment I m right we re going to be introducing a gantry on the m $57.00 as you come towards which island which will have signage overhead signage to get you in the right lane as you come up to switch island so introducing a gantry on the stunning speech road the a 536 again as you come towards which island support signage above the the lanes you get into because one of the problems is with the signage on the sides of the road and if you ve got a heavy duty Have you got a physical inside of us difficult to see the signage Yeah and of course if you come from Donny s Bridge Road on the $57.00 that s a big sweep around there s no you know it s easy just to drift over more lanes of the next Yeah that s that s been one of the issues we ve identified these drivers is drifting from let one lane to another and that s partly because the lane markings are difficult to see I have to say All in all the years that we ve worked in radio switch on and has been mentioned pretty much every day on the Travel News Why so the. Why has it been such a book but this thing. I think it s one of these junctions that developed organically over the years I think in the basic like it s a junction. And as they brought the m 57 and m 58 in the seventy s it s just developed and obviously traffic volumes of increased over the years and most recently we ve had brooms Crossroads the 55743 takes advantage of for me that one yeah yeah yeah I m Tell me a little bit more Phil about these intelligent l.e.d. Roadsters not the not that size of a completely different these this sounds interesting they re completely different they re. They re about 5 inches in diameter about 3 inches deep and they stand to build the road surface approximately quarter of an inch. We ve identified 3 particular locations where they re going to go in and just correct you on what you said on the intro to this the stilts don t actually change color our beg your pardon they like white to shame isn t it be nice one more different colors of Christmas Well yeah that would be a bonus be a bit confusing nothing really has the red you know it always says danger doesn t it the technology is not quite there know what they are there links to the traffic signals right as your system is set traffic traffic lights sorry when they turn green these chuffed extolled lights up so that lights white to identify all delineate the lane you should be in that must be the 1st on the venue s and never seen anything like that before this pair very much new technologies Well if they ve been used in hindsight tunnel down in arcing on the m 3. But they have actually been used up in Scotland. A $720.00 share a fill share a full round about and do they work and they ve worked they reckon they ve. Joost lane wandering by up to 50 percent here s the big question for you now Phil how much disruption is this going to cause on a on a very busy junction of the best of times well we obviously appreciate this is a very busy junction and whatever we do that is going to cause some disruption but only works going to take place overnight to minimize disruption to the shopping public so during the day during rush hour. You ll have a clear on and obviously when Everson all of a pull a plane. Will have an embargo salute definitely no works on that bike and also when entries are on a new cycle path in the stands well yeah we also linking along the I 59 to all South Pole we ve we ve already improved some of the. Cycling provision along telling speech road to switch island and it just takes that little bit farsighted switch island off to war zones good stuff Ok and timescale on this when you think it s all going to be done until state well I know we ve said 52 weeks we. Pretty confident this will be done by Christmas here and the actual Still it s currently programmed in full if you like Ok you got to change the batteries in India. Now Ok . I feel good to talk to you thanks very much indeed so looking at pretty much just under a year yeah it s assault that are good to talk to Phil thank you very much indeed there is Phil Terrell left from highways England is the project manager at highways England just those changes to to switch Island says 5252 years and 52 weeks on the signs maybe a little bit less than that we let wait and see but if you are heading towards which island you never know you may be pain free this time next year on eugenic b.b.c. Radio music so how do we get on with. The one called chair. Which I was reliably a. Well the Eagles take it easy. 6. Have been arrested over the matter. Put it in well traffic seems to be fine it s which I let you know. However we have got some issues on the m 62 slow traffic eastbound between June and 10 for the croft interchange where 6 there so if you had been to Manchester already it s looking quite heavy heavy traffic as well on the east likes road eastbound a bit further afield but between people traffic lights and junction 23 of the m 6 the Haydock and we had some earlier issues on the m 6 southbound but some good news there that the traffic hazard 10 to normal the same area over running through the Cheshire area between $17.16 but they have now if you can update us on anything we might be missing do give us a call provided it s safe and it s legal to do so is 015-179-4095 extension 3 b.b.c. Radio as he said travellers last time we were in the museum of Liverpool down the water from you know what a while ago least a year ago. The reason I ask is do you talk about which I live this morning that the big switch that used to be when it gets its name from. You know where the. The overhead railway carriage Yeah it was like a little section over the ice like one of these big Franken. Switchyard. Said Actually yeah right then and he s not there anymore so it just sort of got his name from switch Island it was it was the big switching station for the electricity from the goal and Lydia So we still needed to turn all of the Leckie off in the goal and Lydia you just you have to be honoring the troops through the years through persuade you how many day you have made it into a good few minutes you had me at hello. Tony it s been said that they thought why is it switched on a white switch I mean because all in all it maybe I just imagine a big maybe the walls maybe there was a fire in the stuff to giggle and then gave it away and we don t have worms today z. It was Ok to Daisy it is what. I m eating so there you go insane so many days you were in for the rest of the day and of course people who were turning on different time pseudomonas So of course we will share that with the through the right it s in there already is that I m glad my last. Doing me post sold for drive time weekday afternoons from 4 o clock when talking about being late because this conservative lone small date was like to the peers Cheney mistimed throwing the question from a labor Paya So have you ever been late and it s maybe been a bit embarrassing or cause you problems I missed a flight once I m realized that I have to stay in a hotel dorms only that I m wearing a contact lens I have bought my glasses with no can t sleep my lenses and I m pretty near blind So yeah I m on the scale and the next day I couldn t see a thing how to arrive at the airport my flight and I had to be escorted onto the plane because I couldn t see where I was going but all of me would go I did oh yeah that s why you go on the plane couldn t see the seat number so they had to literally escort me to my seat and that s why when I missed the flight that strive with me the pole salt cheese ball is on from 4 it s 722 Always a pleasure to welcome. Melanie Harvey with us to look at the play Melanie is present a class of Richard good to see you good morning if I switch Island did you go to the very quiet this morning about leisurely Do you still like to know they need to do something that s all full I mean I use a lot of the still times when I get slightly confused when it come off I think when you come to the end of the m 57 yeah a bit confused by the pies around the park bridge has got the Polish music right yeah yeah. Definitely we have family coming to visit us from Scotland and they just they won t even come they come off the motorway earlier I want to know and maybe that s what next year will be 1000000. 1 of the front page you said to them Well there s obviously one that s really really interesting to me this morning on the front of the Daily Mail of say I work at a cottage cancer center and they have got front page story this morning saying that man is still dying of prostate cancer because the to embarrassed of as a doctor obviously we saw these figures last week that prostate cancer has now overtaken breast cancer the biggest and that s more to do the breast cancer rates of full and. Than anything else and it s all to do with awareness and knowledge and early diagnosis driven days nor is it all really and then you know and this whole embarrassment factor that this is what women seem to have got past you know with cervical cancer and breast cancer women seem to have got beyond the embarrassment I mean that still are I mean we ve seen the cervical cancer the smear test rates going down again recently but it s this thing going get your body checked it s just your particular I mean it is difficult. Maybe older men who feel a bit embarrassed rather than yeah I mean I drove probably I mean I ve met some some prostate cancer patients in the hospital stream I was. One of them in particular who actually we did some publicity with last week. He was at the docks of something else right they did a blood test and that s not embarrassing at the blood test known and virus and then . P.s.i.a. Level switch which acts that way so yeah it does I mean these figures have a saying that. Despite decades of campaigning to raise awareness you know men still aren t going and more than a 100000 patients in England found men with full time jobs are twice as likely as women not to have seen a cheap a in the last year and it s just go to the doctor and get checked and I went on the early you can be diagnosed better well as we know. So hopefully all the publicity around prostate cancer over the last few days will make a difference for balls doing alright with it because they have a little little man that. People go What s that about marriage starts the comics are actually Exactly so the more we can we can say that the better now that The Daily Telegraph got quite a good story this morning about Bitcoins I don t 100 percent understand this I have to be honest with you but it would appear that what s been happening is that people are being going and buying this cryptocurrency with credit cards which is all good and well if you sell a week later and you make a profit but that s not been happening and then obviously if the value drops as it has done quite significantly in recent days you re going to end up with that so Lloyds Banking Group going to tell its credit card customers they can t buy points on credit cards anymore and it just seems weird because a credit card is not real thing because it s all real. It s this virtual currency Yeah the banks the credit card companies are saying we re protecting you we want to protect users which are supposed to a degree book you know they re protecting themselves really well yeah you ve got to wonder What s what s what s behind it all really. Nice one on the floor nice picture on the front of the Guardian obviously we re coming up to the anniversary of that the 17 array of women getting the vote. They ve got great pictures of some celebrations yesterday in Leicester you know people dressed in office of the Jets and I just wonder for young girls grown up now if they realized what was happening and it was only shown women got the vote over 30. And if you were a household Yeah so basically if you were poor and you are young yet forget it you don t get a say as democracy for you it was the star and it was a lot of sort of quite wealthy women who actually took the risk and did all the things that were necessary to ide some of them Joe Yeah they did and you know ended up in prison and some of them lost their children as a result of what happened and I just think now it most people start as a sort of 1718 year old girl coming up the 1st vote think it yeah I want to be able to do this 100 years ago so it s really important that we remember that s partly it s been caught in funding for the celebration so let s say an answer and let s remind people what happens very quickly you ve got something you just want to mention is we have yes it s Let s go green for the concert pitch counts a charity all this week we re asking people to post a selfie wearing a bit of greenhouse talk let s go green will be out in a bow and the streets of Liverpool on Saturday collecting or you can text your to 70 trouble one of you d like to make a donation of 4 pounds so every little helps get a big green elf costume that will go to that before the end of the way. Before able to welcome to early in the morning b.b.c. Radio and there s the sound. Now if I told you that 3 pints of lager had as many calories as 2 burgers or the 3 large glasses of wine is the equivalent of going through a bag of donuts would you be shocked Well it s surprising how many empty calories are in alcoholic drinks if you know careful all of these can quickly add up so it s a good idea to keep an eye on how much you drink in this new campaign of a public health Liverpool it s urging people to think differently about calories in by using comparisons with with junk food to tell us more is Director of Public Health a livable Dr Sandra Davis Dr good morning to you good morning we think about units and we go oh yeah I don t really understand the units but when you compare it to I m going to have 6 times a lager and that s the equivalent of 4 burgers or whatever the it kind of hits home then doesn t it yeah I mean what the. Looks like to us is the unit concept is very difficult to understand when you re drinking you don t know how strong the drinking age you know you have different sizes of glasses of wine but this is much more hard hitting and the research has shown us that when people look at the empty calories of their drinking and they think you know am I really consuming that and we compare it with things like how many miles you have to walk to burn those calories off they really get the message when you say empty calories I don t understand just explain that to me Well alcohol is packed full of calories but there is no nutritional goodness in that does nothing for you does not to any of your nutrition so we call them empty calories you just piling on calories which can you know people weight obviously you know the alcohol itself has negative effects on on your health Anyways if you drink more but it s doing nothing for you how much difference do you think this will make you talk to do you think having something to compare it to whether it s a bag of don t know if so whether it s a big a big bag and you think that will encourage people to go down well the research has shown is that the message about you know how many don t not so how many is your your consuming equivalent of when you re drinking has really got people intrigued so it makes them think about the drinking and also is taking them on to all of drinks check Arap which is then giving them more messages based on the answers they give to the questions about things like you know what you know when how can I stop drinking How can I drink less how can I drink you know more healthily and that s really have the big effect so we think this is going to have a very clear message it s important this isn t a really is you know because we re looking at the bigger picture you know we re all living longer we know about that you know pressures on on the house service eccentric cetera but you know what I like having a few pints I like um I like watching the football like I m a few beers. Like on the back of Christian but I do bit of exercise as well do you think there s a danger that people might say you know what I work on the I like having a beer and there s always somebody telling me what I assure them or shouldn t say Well I think what s good what s good about this campaign is it bases all the information it gives you on the answers you give to the drink Checa and we re not saying to people don t drink what we re saying is the drink that you re having that you re telling us about is having this effect in terms of your health so it gives you a risk go red amber or green but it gives you simply a tip on how you can cut down on one or 2 drinks every day that you re drinking but it shows you what the effect of is as well and I think the other important thing is because d we re so normalized to our drinking patterns we think everybody is drinking exactly the same as us what this does is shows us how many people we re drinking more than so in our age group you know I d be surprised you know if I did if I saw that I was drinking more than 80 percent of my peer group and that s what people are showing you know the drinks checker is showing is that people are getting that information and saying wow if I take one drink our night or you know 2 drinks out a night this is the positive effect it s going to have on my health just one final point where you see for see a time when on the bottle of beer it will say 2 bottles of beer equals 3 bags of crystal 2 bottles of beer he calls chips and Corey thank kind of thing you know because it s always difficult you know that the drinks manufacturers you know they re not very keen on online is know exactly what their other there know and I think that s why you know we ve got this hard hitting message because it gave really measures up against things that people understand I don t think I ll ever be on the on the drink but you know who knows we do need clear labeling there s absolutely no doubt about that but while we know that people are very confused about the units of measurement. Something like. This. Get people talking to listen thank you for your time this morning really appreciate your talk to Sandra Davis the public health for Liverpool interesting. Question 27 minutes now let s get the latest news good morning 3 men have been arrested. After a fight in Liverpool city center the 29 year old was attacked in the streets in the early hours of Saturday the parents of a 20 month old boy who s in a car but you tell a cool that s why they think he s treatment should continue today doctors insist there s no hope for Alfie Evans from Bootle who has a mistreat brain condition public health officials in Liverpool it s a compact alcohol with junk food to try to encourage others to drink less instead of warning about the number of units Celtel drink is how many calories they re taking on and what begins today in a 3000000 pound project to improve safety of the side switch island after almost 50 crashes in the past 2 years so called intelligent capsizing being installed they light up when the traffic lights change you have a cold day with a cloudy morning some sunshine this afternoon but I m afraid it won t get above 3 Celsius it s not all Sol and they reckon some snow. Across the land in the morning if it s out there. Are No. Warning. Warning. That s all we ve been doing is warning people want to. Warn people what they want to drink now warning about the weather do anything. Bless the. Morning you. B.b.c. Radio or you will. About. Think a little you know more about a woman. In the sixty s hearings every injunction known for any concern for the craft into changing is looking slow they already always is slow at the best of times but yeah look in and heavier than normal there for this time of the morning and 6 southbound very slow traffic between 26 for the ol interchange and 23 for Haydock but generally all local routes seem to be looking or right if anything changes though I ll update you again at a quarter to. The b.c. Radio my school for one again I was just. Yeah just a bit afterwards you can gloat claimed he d have to pay the biggest fine in world football if you vented his true feelings about Howie Kane stop each time penalty that of course and taught him a draw against Liverpool the Reds boss was still visibly angry at what he saw as the unjust last of 2 points where he spoke to the media referee as awarded a penalty kick because the assistant referee would be a side this is a signal for the penalty it was called a charge which I know for to be a penalty this could be the last cricket or much I told of a poll that one but Gary but no case goes out through a standard so many things to talk about apart from the rest to decide the game so that s all it is I cannot change all this. I really don t go that well the table today sees Liverpool 3rd full points of Manchester United in 2nd one above Chelsea who play what for tonight Sam Allardyce claims his players inconsistency is a big concern after seeing his side thrashed at the Emirates ever since followed up their promising win against Leicester midweek with an abject display at all still and the Blues boss says he s not seen a performance like it since arriving at the club our players played the worst game the code in the 1st 45 minutes I don t think I ve seen them play that bad since I ve been there on the Depaul form from Wednesday to notch is a big concern of mine but I have to fight. To the end of the season and make sure we get safe Meanwhile Everton have let on the 23 coach David Evans with speak to Oxford United about that manages job adverts in a Liverpool ladies a safety through the 5th round of the women s f.a. Cup The Blues beat boy still City women $31.00 well the right thrash won t fit ladies 5 nil with this Vikings got less Super League season off to a fly a scoring 7 tries in a 40 points to 12 when I have a castle on track ins and the Philadelphia Eagles win the Super Bowl for the very 1st time they beat New England Patriots 4133 Minneapolis to deny the Patriots a record equalling 6th Super Bowl crown but as he s on sports back tonight is the Monday night phone in that might be busy with. 6 o clock Yeah I m warning you don t miss. Radio. Now we think about this there s a panel of independent experts and what they call for a new ring friends tax to replace national insurance now the panel has been censored by the Lib Dems includes the former head of n.h.s. England so David Nicholson It s also recommended a return to the idea of a cap on personal payments for addled social currently Junia is with us she s been looking at this story for us on breakfast today Emily let s just start with this this kind of new old tax if you like National Insurance tell me more about this possible new tax Well it s a potential solution to the endless funding challenges facing the n.h.s. The idea is a single ringfence tax for health and social care that would replace national insurance and the own government is that the n.h.s. In England needs an extra $4000000000.00 pounds on top of inflation in the next financial year to close the funding gap a meet all the demands being placed upon it on top of that this panel is suggesting an extra 2 and a half 1000000000 pounds for both 290-2022 bring and also to bring back the idea of capping social care costs for individuals at $72.00 and a half 1000 pounds now that was a proposal running for a few years that got scrapped back in December I m guessing Normally this is necessary particularly over the past couple of months or so because the pressure has really been on the n.h.s. And will he think back to a month ago we have tens of thousands of non-urgent operations being cancelled left right and center across the country and any unit struggling to cope with the pressure of a winter flu outbreak and there were calls then for more funding for the n.h.s. And a lot of people arguing that the whole system needed a fundamental rethink if we wanted n.h.s. That s fit for the 21st century and we want to address the fact that we ve got an ageing population and that people simply. To afford the costs of social care in old age and what about the government one of they said about this well they haven t directly responded to this proposal for a new taxes such there s a statement from the Department of Health and Social Care and it says that n.h.s. Funding is at a record high it was prioritized in the budget with an extra $2800000000.00 pounds on top of the additional $2000000000.00 already provided for social care over the next 3 years and it said there was an additional $437000000.00 pounds for winter precious. Emily thank you we ll leave it there for now it s 12 minutes to let s bring your today with the headlines. 2 men have been arrested by police investigating the murder of Brandon Regan whose body was found in the back garden of a house. And a new report shows more than 2000 construction firms became insolvent in the last financial year with more facing problems because of the recent collapse of Karelia public health officials in Liverpool. To try and encourage people to drink a little less sports a very angry Club says the penalty decision overshadowed Liverpool s draw with Tottenham. Let s get the travel news coming. B.b.c. Radio. Traffic pay usual on the m $16.00. Manchester slowing you down between 9 for Winnick and 10 for the coffin to change also looking very slow on the m 6 southbound if you get any take between 26 for the all interchange and 21 a where it meets the m 62 for the cross in to change their patches of congestion along that stretch and 56 slow traffic there westbound around Junction 124 and also this one just with a quick mention there is a gas pipe happen in this week on Queens Drive starting today so one of the lane to lane of the 2 lane carriage way from the 10 left of park road towards chill will 5 ways that will be closed to traffic in stages at some points today so just looked. For that it s a little bit slower than normal there at the moment if you can let us know of anything else at 151-794-0953 p.c. Radio messy side travel some of the comments l.e.d. Capsizing new signs waste of time and money it needs a fly over over switch Island 52 weeks to do this job it didn t take that long to build the m 57 says the morning to you also has been on as well what if you call a blind alley Dees will still be useless while we said that the not going to be cola these and I G. s on switch on they ll just be you know bright light a bright white or warm white and normally I do you think you get a small moist for the same time I am white for the summer bright light for the year for the winter so I presume the lights on and off I m not going to affect if you call yet within a thought so I don t know the thoughts about well enough to have one I don t know yes I would have thought they d of thought of that way right let s let s do our day do you know how the whole Super Bowl thing works. You know I know it s a very big deal in America and I was not yet huge you re more interested in who s performing. How bionics it was no doubt the Super Bowl massive sporting event but the halftime entertainment usually dominates the headlines most of the game itself and there s the advertising as well the price to advertise during the 1st ever Super Bowl cost $37.00 and a half 1000 pounds which is a lot of money but it was a lot of money but again these days not so much if you compare it to the year 2000 it was $2200000.00 and in 2015 it doubled to about 4 and a half 1000000 it costs around between $5.00 and $7000000.00 now for 30 seconds why. Does $1000000.00 a year for 30 seconds during the Super Bowl with of course you know $7800000000.00 people watching it but the x. Down the years Madonna Michael Jackson due to the Who I mean the list is endless there s been a wardrobe malfunction by Janet Jackson and I m not one of the Rolling Stones so they were really annoyed. And accuse the television company of turning down Mick Jagger s microphone on set lyrics when they were singing star because they changed the lyrics and made a bit naughty. We haven t got the naughty version of so you can have to imagine that. Radio as he saw Melanie obvious but with his from out from that s a bridge we re going to look at some of the stories on the inside pages Welcome back Hello I found one I think you ll like that this really appealed to me this is an American a couple of pics this morning yeah but it s talking about you you saw the top retro Craven s the things that we don t do anymore that we used to on the top one is making a mix tape. We re going to make some of that you. Know just because it was just there was there was no great joy in the world well quite like Preston recalled on the old radio station yeah I ll give you a copy of the type of got high speed dial being. Got out of the tape to tape I ll do it for you so that s the. It s the top one and this poll that s been done making a mix tape in photos and photo albums which is nice something special about that you know you can show you photos on your phone to people it s good not to say open in the photo album I m here for all and that they are not just for him properly it s just it was brilliant using a v.h.s. Recorder I don t miss the latter sat which is why I don t miss that so Plus remember you could push the little bit and so somebody couldn t record your tape yet but then you could put sell it I would sell it and then they started to come off inside the machine. So I mean I think that the whole mixtape thing was something about that that was great so I found a load of mine a while ago and we were moving on that actually actually threw them away and I don t mean we relied. On yours and there was there was talk of seeing your. Anyway this is one of the Times this morning I think this actually started life in the Sunday Telegraph yesterday but I heard you say and talk about dogs and I live near the beach in form back at the moment I ve been able to take the dogs to the beach for about 2 months now because this deposits of palm oil along the beach and quite a lot of dogs are full and really ill and I think some people I think a couple of dogs have actually died and I ve not ever really understood exactly where it s coming from but the National Trust they re of been warning people to be really really careful about that so the piece this morning really small piece in The Times but what is happening is parent like foreign tankers are allowed to dump Parma pommels used in things like food so by fuels and they re allowed to deliver it and then whatever s left in the tanks after they ve delivered it they re allowed to dump it 12 miles from the shore it doesn t seem very far to make us know what s happening in this area at the moment and I think the satin Coast has been really badly affected the forefront Burks that washed up on to the onto the beach totally harmless to humans but of a dog that can be fatal So there s a low to warning signs up on the beach near me at the moment and as I say I have not taken my dogs to the beach now since most of the back and. So that even if you take your dog out to the part you are walking along your ways the dog always eaten something over there you can keep an eye on all the target on your terrible I mean they everything I was on the beach out of that we can exercise in but I saw a lot of dogs and so there s an m.p. In Cornwall so it s obviously happening down there as well who s calling for an inquiry into this so. So this is where it s coming from I thought the been some sort of shepherd song called something like 12 miles isn t a long way from the shore so just be really careful if you live in that area you know. But that s that s the reason why so ever been tempted by a facelift. Doing so well you know we don t get a job radio great come in in the time of the radio an email facelifts are up 16 percent in the last year according to the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic surgeons while women have unless. The man yeah I mean I mean it s not from a bit of a coward when it comes to well you know any reason why I wouldn t do it it s like yeah I mean I m gray you know Al You know it s like me comin in the morning but like trash not brown you know what I m to tell you that we don t say anything I think he s out to do you know and you know you might be for all the people not for me hypocrite because I do die and I had the great but I just I think the whole it s more of a queasy thing with me I just don t think I could physically you are faced with Dawn but Brad left there on the increase 25 percent increase the man having a proud let you know so yeah I have a little look around that s time you may. See what you think I ll go down well with the 40 lads. And the telegraph a lot of people dream of starting their own business and you know I don t want to be a wage slave anymore but think twice because according to this story self-employed people take just 14 days holiday a year and one in 8 self-employed people take no days off it s all yeah and a lot of self-employed people and the staff and not themselves we. Don t think it s quite the dream that people think so just just think again the next time especially on a Monday morning hashtag what we need to look for that we go green and if you re in town and you pass the bills and you will not be able to mess pull the street down a brilliant mural for us just to try and highlight what we do and build in a new council sanctions that essentially look at the whole and just the what is also and I was yet. A what I would look. Great. In Everybody American families will get very lank you know it s nearly 8 o clock right how do we get on with the quiz with no name smally we were looking the people who have a day of the week for a Christian name of the 1st name one of we got Wednesday Addams it was Tuesday wasn t it oh no it was Wednesday in The Addams Family it was choose day Weld s was the actress Thank you Sylvia Thank you Kerry. Friday as well they were the only ones we could think of but thanks again in touch Wednesday Addams chews day well for apparently and I m thinking how does that work probably it s the it s the Norse for Friday is that right I ve no idea but anyway Robby I think you probably just come straight in from the pub on some reports like to get in touch anyone. Out for thought it would be quieter than this and if you journey does take you along the m 6 southbound this is fair or feel but if you are headed that way we have got issues around about junction 18 this recovery where they re broken down lorry and the exit slip road is blocked as you head out from the motorway towards the roundabout is junction 18 so it s middle which home shop a bit out of all patch but just bear that in mind if you re travelling on the m 6 southbound closer to home on the roads in Bootle entry road in both directions actually blocked at the moment at the junction of Southport road there has been an accident so access to the roundabout is being prevented from entry road at the minute because of that accident so look out for that. Some things to look out for new public transport we ve got a Saturday timetable on me as a rail and it s a similar situation on your boss s today we ve got no trains between legal and today there s a replacement bus service running there and line Street trains aren t stopping at Liverpool Lime Street today many services will be 10 in 18 at Liverpool South Parkway instead with replacement to Lime Street it s on the concourse sort of area and engineering works if you can let us know of anything else so do give us a call though 151-794-0953 b.b.c. Ok I didn t bother them they still do it now and what else did we have. In the old fashioned way we ll give you. What else we got here at the combine obviously of the. Yeah that s probably the. There s one for you this is well before you. Send the Small Faces note a little bit of way through the. Case

Have been so we re going to write Ok now at the start of the challenge this week I think this could go one of 2 ways quite frankly because I don t know whether I ve been too clever for my own good here and needs people to be a bit clever and to think about this because one of decided we should do with it being Christmas and with you being such a fun you know you know the song that almost you know you know the song The 12 Days of Christmas I have heard of it yeah you know you know it goes so you want to sing it with me so on the 1st day of Christmas My true love sent to me a partridge in a true and then on the 2nd day of Christmas My true love sent to me to turtle doves and a partridge in a pear tree and then it was 3 French hens exact for calling birds 5 gold rings 6 geese a laying 7 swans a swimming 8 maids a milking 9 ladies dancing 10 lords a leaping 11 pipers piping and 12 drummers drumming I don t write like that anymore they don t it s a classic it really is so what we ve decided to do is ask for your suggestions of songs syngas artists groups connected with the 12 Days of Christmas writes So for example I ve got anything by the Dave Clark 5 gold rings. See what I ve done I ve also gone for the madness classic for the wings of a turtle dove oh yeah Or what about Harry with the French hens in the USA. You see would have done you she would have done nothing at all because Debbie would approve of but we need any any kind of songs all right is connected with the 12 Days of Christmas this is where you ve got to be a bit clever So what we re talking a clever Here s Gary Well I ve come up with anything by. Maidens of milk and right it s Ok yeah yeah I ve got I got caught in the gangs 9 ladies dancing night. Anything by the Partridge Family in a pear tree Yeah facts Yeah but he doesn t go on here or Shirley Bassey 5 gold ring fingers 5 gold ring fingers the Partridge Family is a good one as well you could also have what you could have Billie Piper. Thank you very much indeed it seems to be coping Ok on the road such leave the service after noon but no major issues to let you know of the I m 53 and I m 56 on the move in both directions it s also looking Ok in the Birkenhead and Wallasey tunnel nothing major no no no queues or I think you know drive coming out of Liverpool city center looking a little bit sluggish from the usual places heading up towards the the m $62.00 it s also quite busy on Queen s drive as well just the usual traffic around the chilled wool Valley Road 5 ways roundabout and they re looking Ok up the Strand in Liverpool city center now in the in the area of Target and seeing a bit of traffic because of an earlier accidents involving 2 vehicles looking quite slow in the area between the 851 Tarpon roundabout and Barrow Lane have been reopened but still fairly slope and it s also just a reminder that in the area of. Would love to let Dumbarton all die. Because I m right here. I have a. d joke of the Steve Miller Band Now if you re listening to our breakfast show this morning if you believe it s b.b.c. Radio throughout the day you will know the bike and busk charitable big charity event the children need it all kicked off the small and you ve got snarly you ve got you ve got Steve Coleman amongst all the people from b.b.c. Radio and they have headed off on this incredible adventure spot 170 miles of the plant on to cover and over the next week so far this morning they ve been to Southport the been to Crosby they have been to boo all they are now taking a much needed rest opening I think we can speak to Jimmy and minty how the thighs do and so far Jim The thought is the thighs are doing really well and the chicken thighs are lovely. I just have a couple and they re the sort of mice that we re interested in you know well you know we ve seen Sally and Steve doing their lunges around the office for the past few weeks as well I mean we didn t need to say it but we have unfortunately seen it in the lycra as well bowed out did they get on them with the not too bad. Well it s been great that they we are poor as I said we are pausing now half way well about 3 quarters of the way through to the start of this spike and Bosc epic journey I ll be honest with you that the boys are living up some people are doing more busking them biking said they ll be named in a minute and you join us here as we pause here at Aintree racecourse and as I look out across this this mob of a spectacle here I ve got the Queen Mother stand in front of me I ve got the load Dalby stand in front of me and Jenny through through the gap there I can see the the finishing line of the Aintree racecourse this this wonderful majestic historic place has been the scene for much history much much and of course it s been. To many Thore breads and then from thoroughbreds as I tend to the left. I hadn t for the knock and I don t know if I can. Just give claimants or show oh. She s a bit Morton But anyway we ll talk about that neighbor this time by cousin Bush is extraordinary Tony Snow and Steve Coleman have been leading the way so only we all 3 quarters of the way through so far has it been an epic journey for you well it was an epic journey because I thought we were finishing today I didn t realise it was a whole week it s a relapse all week of that was back on in the morning but we stopped off at the Black Bull in a 3 foot of pints in lovely couple of pints. What s been the highlight so forth are the highlights so far as going up the hills in the in Bootle but being helped by exactly I m coming to know how comments you now by all cyclists aim we wouldn t go to those what we would have done we would have to push but it was almost like to see the episode of Thunderbirds where the plane was trying to land on the room way and the other planes came in and helped that s exactly what it was like Jimmie go right haven t seen them but it Ok. So Steve it s been a bit of a journey for some some people have been. Asking some people have been biking for the same again I know you are a bit of a cyclist in fact I have heard it said you are semi pro has it been any easy for you or Absolutely you told you that no I mean. Say was going to say then go no easy when I was going without you know it you know what it s been to be fair it s been sore for them we thought it would be the thing we re riding is a bit of an every old thing and so we re having so we saw set off with really really good high expectations of going you ride for half an hour and then our ride for half an hour and we ll you know we ll cut a dash across Merseyside but the reality is that we re having to swap every 10 minutes just because the thing so heavy but you know if it wasn t a challenge we wouldn t be raising money we won t be worthwhile I have to say when we stopped at the Strand in fact everywhere we stopped especially the Strand when we stopped at the Strand people were throwing the money in the bookies and it was really so we want to thank all of those people where but you still arrived anyway didn t we did I mean that was before we got there and you know yeah so so it s been go to spin out and it should be out otherwise why we re doing it I was this is as long as it s for the children still with us all about the kids but of course you ve got an extra special responsibility because Tony s been showing off at some point he s been actually cycling backwards but you ve got to you ve got to play the guitar as well like a sort of a modern day troubadour jumping off the stage I think I think he would tell you re playing the guitar is not as it s not been my strongest point or to now we ve got your finger for his reason call when we get there and stuff but you know what we re joined by the choir in the in the Strand that was brilliant because basically they masked all our mistakes believe. That said the Believe me mercy side so we murdered the song and they saved the song so you know my planes not being not hard at the moment you know what the kids in fact the kids as well it s for feel primary school they also could master our horrific playing but we re doing our best are you know busted a little bit of these fellas because they re these lads from Liverpool Phoenix that they got up the hill Yeah the. Well hopefully they can stay with us and help us get up a few more hills but you know we ve done it we ve got a really good day it s only day one we re going to be are all week as well Steve with a cramp in his guitar strap snap and it doesn t matter it doesn t matter you know as you say it s often the case of the kid and that s not an injury by the way we get our stuff struck snappin not make it our. Cats What s it like ringing the bell . That s a strength Allan from Liverpool Phoenix cycling corporation club that s right yeah . Great deal of Jess because you got the book the broom otherwise. Think to be fair like it s a lead bike the rider. Oh yeah he s doing well you know good on us lots for what you do and tell you how to. Be illegal wouldn t. We do the jokes you stay on the car like you out of here what makes made it what I was telling the boys Clemons what s being the highlight for you so far we ve been everywhere Southport form been everywhere Yeah it s been watching these 2 get off the bikes walking like. It s been lovely just. But the lunch has been lovely to look at the launch has been amazing thank you very much longer has been delicious and we have to say thank you to the people to fulfill junior school yet the people at the strong the people here I think your race courses are all looking after so far where we go next and if we are going next with these guys we re going to be Mark after they ve done a bit of a trip around the race course and then tomorrow Ok the market starts. Primary School where they re going to when I m going to sit Ellen s rugby league then we re going up to the dream start you I know but a dream such you can have a picnic up there then we all got to United Utilities to pay because he hasn t paid for a couple of months and they re going to finish off tomorrow. So we re looking forward to it when he got himself a football match tonight 8 o clock. I hope I thought of that but people have been beeping people have been waving kids as well want to see funny gestures I didn t realize what they meant but people have been great not only the places that we ve stopped but drivers and cabbies and wagon drivers and everything everybody s been fantastic it s only day one it s sunny day one. Tony. Where he once again and as always we ve cleared the room. Not everyone s gone they ve all gone. We don t know about jelly so jelly we re having a great sight it is hard work I tell you it s been hard work it s harder for them but me and Claire and the We Are the advance party it s just drink and because they don t eat Mars bars left right center it s. Right tell me you re not and then I m going over the joint saw they were all now they re not going over the. Cliff Claire will tell you what s on the agenda of the next few minutes we re going to jumps Yeah we re going to whip them and jump into the car race course they re going to be having a go around the home with the lovely little Phoenix boys they can be got around as well and the boys and cat in the bike so you could lots of and keep looking on our Twitter feed now Facebook Jenny because there s videos and pictures left right and center of the face stage of what is an epic and it will disable go on to become a legendary bike ride and we can keep up with you as you say that to me on all the social media and then it all starts again tomorrow from 7. We ve got to do it. And. Just. Get back. To the car. a very nice can speak to. This morning been into well if you do want to follow up with. He said Janet just looked at some of the vids on here of Mr Coleman is my way of the Hairy Bikers look these days it must be all that food that the re in and then it like this hash tag brekky Hell s Angels and we have the whole of the brekky team and they are out there on the roads across messy side all this week all part of the children in need bike challenge and you can follow them along on Twitter on the Facebook as well but they. Club. Being. Around the. Have. All. My. Livable Express and you my love so we have got live music on the way in just a few moments but 1st of all I wanted to sneak this one in and it is the brand new one from Van Morrison Ok So Van is in town Wednesday night he is at the Liverpool film on a cold sold out as he does every single day just sells so instantly and only one only one night because he did too with us didn t he the only place that he played 2 gigs was was right with us and last day but just doing the one so Wednesday night is up with us but little by anyone on this day he released what was his thing 7th studio album initiate also mark 50 is since his very fast release and his 1st album and this one he s done something a little bit different cause you ve got 5 original songs on there but then 10 covers as well and all these calls as they come from blues and soul musicians looked up to throughout his career but never recorded the song so on that you have got songs from T.-Bone Walker and Doc Pomus count bases. Sam Cooke Sister Rosetta saw Lightnin Hopkins Mose Allison and T.-Bone Walker. There are 2 from the man who was our Choose day blues day artist on the show last week is born Alice McDaniel and you might remember that it is actually though deadly So we ve got 2 songs from both deadly on this album one of them is right on Josephine but the other one is this one and it is the one that is brought out next this is the latest one from Van Morrison and as it is his vision of I can tell. a no no. Oh yes that is Van Morrison and his version of Bode lays I can tell taken off his latest album roll with the punches and go play that one that everybody managed to get tickets to Wednesday night and everybody you didn t know where it s Ok to stick with City stick all finals is so go roll cassettes or we can still play that ever less than you want from the Martian the whole of that album really just a nod to the people who ve you know influenced him and I think you can tell like in his voice you know the Hawks back to those and they definitely those and please musicians but I mean we love them about the program so any excuse to play him and would you know what we have had such an amazing run of live music on the show in recent weeks and weeks and we are going to continue with that right now with our guest tonight is money does not know and there s an off the wall to write a good shoot on especially $1.00 that s going to hit you right in the hall and his name is Nathan Bally s play and if a house concert even back to the season but he s in those fasteners going to sing some songs and so welcome to the studio Nathan a journey thanks for having me a pleasure pleasure and now is this your 1st trip to the u.k. You know it s my 2nd trip to the u.k. In in one year I was a county connections in February. And did a little run down there and then ended up coming back pretty quickly so now we ve had the Celtic connections can get quite roll because the after parties Well now they have 2 parties gag and the most boring man alive after the Yeah Yeah so now I really am somebody bad to photograph the swinging off the chandeliers I mean if there s Michelle you know have you seen lyrics from because the light needed. Now you just said you said Little Johnny not to fox come up from school but you can see why else is why you got to go down the campaign with Los and I got the last time I was there it was beautiful and clear and I wonderful and you know this time it was it was doing the whale sideways rain which is you. No there were no clouds but I got to the car and rain would come from the left it s just beautiful but that sounds like the public to go so it s a very very wet and wild show to be a little of what truly go to wonderful audience to well that s one of the audiences been like because it seems like across your in recent years there s been this interest and love of American folk music America and yeah there has been it s directly related to the fact that European audiences and u.k. Audiences are more in tune to the roots forms of the music than American audiences are now in somebody like me I get to have half my crowd is here is there for the songs and I think half the crowd is there for the guitar styles. But yeah it s got in the way a lot of my good friends of started getting over here as well and I mean I m an old guy this is my 3rd career basically and. I m surprised that at the response to be honest with you you had a little break didn t you because you kind of just come back like how long s it been since I don t think that stage Well I ve been I ve been playing for 67 years now seriously since I came back maybe a little bit longer but I took about 14 years off in the in the ninety s in that in that it s. Mostly just as a. I got tired fed up with it and I stopped playing guitar for all those years never even picked it up so coming back to it was interesting it was like being a baby all over again but how did you get back to it what you just kind of the last thing on or Oh it was all hidden away there was no there were no guitars in the house and a friend of mine named Don Henry songwriter. He did a show down near me and said come to the show and play couple of songs and I said no and he sort of forced me to and I wasn t very good. And it irritated me and then my wife I was on the business trip to work for a major corporation I was on a business trip and I came back in one of our closets have been converted into a little office for me and have a guitar sitting in a table lamp and a chair and you know he doesn t usually choke me about I did today she sounds like a lady who knows what you need well maybe you know I was as I like to say that I went from making a really good living to disagree half and. Play I mean I think it kind of makes you happy I think I can tell it but yeah I like that I like playing a lot if you could be along with me then to be perfectly well so you re going to think it s a song well yeah I ll do one off for one of my earlier records and. Will start out will start out in a fingerpicking stuff do I need to move this mike down a little bit no no your eyes you go. If you ever seen a sketch so you could fit the whole world in. They begin you. Do you ever heard a field of stones rattle just like dead man s bog. Baby can you hear. It he ever seen Alliance flashed by like a picket fence before your. Baby can you roll with me. Have you ever gone against the wind just to be carried back again. So. It doesn t matter what we say. Is what we do. On the way darling. Is some day you may. Carry me down. But is that you love too much. David can you. Ever failed up a tear is one for every passing year and David. See it doesn t matter what we say. As one would do. Need much a long way. Ever ask you. Some day. We carry me. Carry me. He never lost it did you. Actually I Google well defined. What was it I was a muscle memory is a good thing because we re going to get to know it was a work. We came back I had a broken shoulder kind of a ripped up shoulder I had to have completely operated on and when I came back from I couldn t play the same kind of guitars down so I had to learn to fingerpick So there was actually a big change in the way I played in that 7 years because I didn t have a I didn t have the ability to play like I played before in my 1st career in the eighty s I was a flat picker like almost like a bluegrass musician and. I just had too much damage and so I learned to play this way afterwards and you know if you play enough and work hard enough and there was some muscle memory obviously but. Mostly it just. Tell me a manual guitar player says if you miss a day of practice you know it well he s not kidding and so I try to play quite a bit every day and as I get older. It gets to be more important but also some of it s the guitar is a matching Mala guitar a guitar maker in Massachusetts in the United States and guitar is perfect for me so it helps it helps make me better than I might be well to other nobody given the credit to the it s Ok but I mean that s what they say isn t it 40 if you do you still if you 1000 that was anything you ll be called and I will the experts and you just got to put the time and I guess so I mean you know we said applied to raising kids. Let s talk about that because obviously we had we had a guy and the guy was he some local musician with a few weeks ago and he saved me out of a break and I said Oh why did you have to break in he was like full kids you know I feel good and so that s why what was it like getting back out there was it did you start off doing like you know my gigs know I still had connections and. So I was able to step back into a fairly. A fairly good play in the circuit but I don t tour a lot and I don t play shows unless they really want me there so I mean there s a place when you re starting out it s great to stand in the corner of a bar or play the farmer s market or bust I mean it s a great way to get your self together but I m 57 and. I have a short fuse and so I like to play in places where they re actually glad I m there like like the house concert set up yeah because you know people just in a way. Still you know like if I do your job as you know if your job is Banker music that s fine it s a good way to learn to play without a lot of people catching your mistakes to worry about the songwriting and you think you. Is the songwriting process is it change you must change that because you know you ve got this life experience well I wasn t in between so it s all right most of the way you write songs and what you write about with the changes I m going usual that I m one of the few people who writes about work and work that s done it most of his life I mean generally speaking writers and even good ones. Are writers and they write about what they ve heard about but I ve actually lived through most of it and so when I came back to doing it in my fifty s. I have a clarity and an intelligence to it that I didn t have before and it s like you know it s I was never a miner and there are some songs in there that are about mines but I never pretend to be one of the songs either so. I understand the working experience a lot more closely plus raising my family and being home with my kids and my wife was the greatest thing that ever happened to me to be honest with you if the company hadn t gotten tired of me when I got over 50 I d probably still be doing it so you feel like you got the best of both Wilson because you have you know that family life but then you ve got this yeah and I and I actually I m I started teaching guitar back home because I really don t like being on the road a lot so. I love coming over here great audiences now but I get a little to get back home after about 6 days. Like me to be home that s the my. Vote is a lot you know that experience it you know if you re kind of a young lad and you ve become a rock star when you re 19 and life is all you ve ever known then you re writing songs maybe about going out on the road and you know living this kind of life that actually your old jeans can t really relate to where was your comment like that was my love was your life as well so you ve got this kind of a common common you know feeling between you and the audience I think so I hope so and you have to ask the audience about that but I hope so Ok so you can do it all that you have for us you know I ll do one since yesterday was Remembrance Day Yeah so I ll do this one it s off like a river which is now I did also I should mention there are actually a couple of spaces left tonight and I ve been I ve been told I should give the actual website yeah I think there are a full tickets left if you want to go to this super special house concert this even if it s him but they also use events and. Great for Fred dot co dot u.k. . It s left of this confidence and I do want to ask a question before it s listening. And there s a show you have on television where it s basically Australian border airport control and it s an IP t.v. 7 or whatever it is right Ok And you know is there. Fascination with sort of the Australian experience that has just started over the last few years because I think there s 3 shows like that I don t think it s left me as he thought so you know it was a long run and so Oh really both at home and like all right low the Brits go over. Every the connection the action the new you have the show where people decide whether to move there all of that show although with a cardboard sign Yeah but I ve never understood the episode once to be honest. And they re always seen oh they re always just taking food away from me and for that I do this on them. And name is Pravin. Come from the way home and play. I am the 3rd. Strong boy.
