The Federal Reserve will reduce its monthly bond purchases before it commits to an interest rate increase, Fed Chair Jerome Powell said on Wednesday, clarifying the order of monetary policy changes that are still months if not years in the future.
The Fed is currently buying $120 billion a month in government-issued and government-backed securities, and has pledged to continue doing that until the economy is more fully recovered.

Gold Prices Slip Ahead of 'Actual Inflation Data' and US Treasury Bond Auctions

Monday, 4/12/2021 14:32
GOLD PRICES edged lower and bond prices fell on Monday, as did global stock markets, keeping longer-term interest rates firm after US Fed chief Jerome Powell unnerved investors with comments on short-term US interest rates ahead of this week's huge auctions of new Treasury debt,
writes Atsuko Whitehouse at BullionVault.

Formal statements from the US central bank have repeatedly said it doesn't expect to raise overnight rates from zero
until 2024 at the earliest.

But asked about the recent rise in bond market rates, "I think it's highly unlikely we would raise rates this year," Federal Reserve chairman Powell

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Federal Reserve foresees the economy accelerating quickly this year yet still expects to keep its benchmark interest rate pinned near zero through 2023, despite concerns in financial markets about potentially higher inflation.
With its brightening outlook, the Fed on Wednesday significantly upgraded its forecasts for growth and inflation. It now expects the economy to expand 6.5% this year, up sharply from its previous projection in December of 4.2%. And the Fed raised its forecast for inflation by the end of this year from 1.8% to 2.4% after years of chronically low price increases.

Analysis: U.S. Fed's Powell faces political test on bank capital relief question

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - An esoteric bank capital rule has become an unlikely political hot potato for Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, as the Republican appointee enters the final 12 months of his term under Democratic President Joe Biden’s administration, analysts said.

Park County Summer Tourism Forecast - How Busy Will We Be?

Written by Andrew-Rossi on March 18, 2021
Park County may not see pre-pandemic tourism for a few more years, but there’s every reason to believe Summer 2021 will be full of tourists and revenue.
As the nation and the world recover from the pandemic, Park County may be positioned better than many other places to recover quickly. Over one-third of the county has been vaccinated and the statewide mask mandate is gone as Wyoming’s COVID climate has improved.
Expecting a return to pre-pandemic tourist numbers isn’t realistic for 2021.
Claudia Wade, Executive Director of the Park County Travel Council, is already anticipating what kind of tourism we’ll see this summer. It’s not bad, but it’s not 2019.

Jerome Powell soothes market fears and downplays inflation worries

Low interest rates mean economic activity can heat up, but will inflation also begin to catch fire?
Jerome Powell announced Wednesday that current short term interest rates will remain the same. Investors celebrated, but others are worried about the long run.
“Talking about inflation is one thing, actually having inflation run above 2% is the real thing”.”
— Jerome Powell
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK, UNITED STATES, March 18, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Wednesday felt like an eternity for both investors and the stock market as all awaited Jerome Powell’s announcement regarding the Federal Reserve’s interest rate. The stock market had been in a downturn all day awaiting Powell’s news. Worries about inflation, a possible rise in interest rates to curb inflation, and the overall health of the American economy kept investors riddled with anxiety.

The Park County Sheriff’s Office released the details of the multi-agency vehicle pursuit and the inter-agency cooperation used to stop a rogue suspect.
On Tuesday, March 16, Cody-area Facebook pages were buzzing with news of a cross-county car chase, with multiple Park County law enforcement officers pursuing a speeding SUV. Details, however, were scarce.
Later that day, the Park County Sheriff’s Office released the details of the vehicle pursuit that crossed most of Park County but involved 3 counties, two states, and several officers.
At 9:15 a.m., Park County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) Undersheriff Andy Varian attempted a routine traffic stop at milepost one on Highway 291 on the Southfork Highway. The suspect – who has yet to be named – refused to stop.

Powell says Fed will announce update on SLR exemption in coming days

(Reuters) - Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said on Wednesday that the U.S. central bank will share an update on a bank liquidity rule in the “coming days.”
An exemption on the “supplemental leverage ratio” was put in place at the start of the coronavirus pandemic to encourage big banks to lend and support bond and short-term funding markets. The exemption, which reduced the amount of capital banks must hold against Treasurys and some deposits, is currently set to expire on March 31.

BOJ could act on Friday, but it may not matter: USD/JPY

BOJ could act on Friday, but it may not matter

USD/JPY could see a pullback over the next few days ahead of the FOMC and BOJ meetings
Share:
The BOJ has been providing monetary stimulus to Japan for years in the form of negative rates, ETF buying, and yield curve control (bond buying).  Since the pandemic, the extraordinary stimulus has only increased. After years and years of support, the Bank of Japan (BOJ) begins another 2-day meeting review on Wednesday.  On Friday, they will release the results of their findings.  Currently, the BOJ owns nearly $450 billion worth of Japanese ETFs. With stock markets at their highest levels since the 1990s, the BOJ must find a way to communicate to the markets that they are willing to do “something”, while not considering it tapering.  They could announce a reduction in the amount of ETFs they buy, but that may be a bit less dovish than they want to sound.  A more likely scenario, as had been mentioned by the BOJ last week, is to seek a freer yield fluctuation around the zero target on the 10-year JGB.  The current range is 20 bps in either side.  This would allow them to do “something”, without signaling too much.

Stock ETFs Stall Near Recent Highs as FOMC Approaches
March 16, 2021
Stock index ETFs were mixed on Tuesday, with tech stocks and ETFs pushing higher as other sectors languished. Meanwhile, Federal Reserve officials commenced their March meeting.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped from its recent highs on Tuesday by about 0.4%, while the S&P 500 added 0.1% to notch a new intraday high, before selling off somewhat. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq Composite led the three key benchmarks, climbing just more than 1%, led by major tech players like Microsoft, Apple, Alphabet, and Facebook.
“These are highly profitable businesses with excellent balance sheets,” said Angelo Kourkafas, an investment strategy analyst at Edward Jones. “They could be relative underperformers, but I have hard time, based on the valuations they’re trading at, imagining that they could have a severe or sustained pullback.”
