The Conservative Partys annual conference starts today in birmingham. The event is a chance for The Partys four leadership candidates to make an impression, with each of them due to give a speech on wednesday. Speaking to Laura Kuenssberg this morning, leadership hopeful Robert Jenrick explained why he is the man to turn around the fortunes of the Conservative Party after losing out to labour in the general election. In the article that i wrote in the hours after the election, then i came on your show that weekend, i said that we failed to deliver on the economy, on the nhs and our borders. So there are multiple failures that we need to acknowledge as a party, whilst obviously defending the things we got right in government, and then weve got to listen to the public and set out serious answers to those challenges. Ive spent the last few months thinking very deeply about how we do that, and i dont want to waste the next five years debating those things. Thats a recipe for more infightin ....

Of course i say sorry for the trauma that they have been through, the frustration that they go through because of the inadequacies of the criminalJustice System. We are fixing that. For labour, the buck stops with thejustice secretary. Enough is enough. Will he reverse these failures within a year or will he resign . Also in this programme, Mental Health and the pandemic. Children as young as five | disposing of the contents of their lunch box in the bin and leaving the wrappers. I in to tell teachers that theyd i eaten what was in the lunch box when they hadnt. And all aboard is the queen about to get a new boat . Its not a new royal yacht, its a new national flagship. In my book, thats. Laughter.
