Spending cuts, americans will hold them accountable. so now we know their talking points, don t we? right. so this is an important issue here. what eric cantor is saying is that the problem we re having is a disagreement over the amount of cuts. to some degree, that may be true, but to some degree, it isn t. one of the big sticking points is democrats want to do cuts from the entirety of the federal budget. so not just what s called nondefense discretionary spending, which is where republican cuts are, and things like education, infrastructure, et cetera. but also mandatory spending, farm commodity subsidies, medicare, things like that. things that are outside this tiny slice republicans prefer to focus on. so we do have one issue of how much cuts. we also have one which is where the cuts come from. and republicans have been oddly dogmatic on only allowing them to come from one bucket of the federal budget. ezra klein, time magazine, one of their top 100 twitter feeds. very nice. ....

Loose from the bronx zoo has gotten pretty much everybody s attention. since it went missing on friday, the world has been watching, looking, and a lot of it has been chronicled on a pretty litt hilarious twitter feed. experts insist the problem isn t as bad as it seems. nbc s peter alexander, brave man that he is, is at the bronx zoo in new york city. what s the latest there, peter? reporter: yeah, chris, we re covering this story from a good several footballs away severano messing around on a st like this. easy for them to say, it s not such a big deal. suffice to say, they think the snake is inside the reptile house in a warm, dark area, which makes standing outside in 35 degrees not so bad, quite frankly. but zoo keepers will head back inside, sweeping the area, looking for this cobra, again, that has now been missing for more than four days. if you re anything like me, you would probably prefer to cover this story from up here. but way down below, there s a ....

Agree that while the scanners are the best first option, the risks that come from the back scanner x-ray machines are very, very small, even for frequent travelers. right now, protests at the u.s. supreme court as the justices take on a very important case with big implications for the paychecks of millions who believe they face job discrimination. in a class action filing that could join together more than 1.5 million women, the suit claims that walmart favors men in pay and promotions, and it has big business all across america very nervous. joining me now to discuss it, georgetown university law professor paul rothstein. good to see you, paul. how are you doing? i m good. how are you, chris? big case. the court, as i understand, isn t going to decide whether walmart discriminated, but whether this suit is so big with so many women in it, it shouldn t be allowed to go to trial. for a lot of people, this is ....

Development, biotech, high tech comes from those private investors and why not bring american money back to create those jobs rather than borrowing the trillion dollars from china to try to do it a different way? you know your stuff here. let s bore down on this. basic research. the president argues that basic research needs federal money. yes of course it s commercial applied later. do you accept that argument? i think it s the seeds that are able to grow in another field but both have to work the other. the trouble is right now we think about all of the private sector money isn t there so if you put the public sector money in and don t create the environment to allow that to germinate and grow it s going to be throwing seed on rough stone. you re not going to get a fertile ground. one thing we have to remember here in washington, just throwing money at the problem isn t going to answer it and i think you ll agree with that but we ve got to prepare the ground so the private sector ....

Deeply and institutionally corrupt. designed for payoffs on every bill. the problem isn t individual politicians, though they really don t help much, the problem is the system itself. our representatives don t represent us. they represent the people who pay them, the lobbyists. joining me now to talk more about this is david soroda a radio show host, nationally syndicated columnist and author of the uprising which sounds pretty good to me now. david, is our system broken? it s absolutely broken, and it goes to the very question that you ve raised, which is who do these politicians work for? and really who s paying for them to go to work? and now they get paid a taxpayer salary, but their re-election is oftentimes based on how much money they can raise. and the vast majority of the money that they raise comes from extremely wealthy people from lobbyists, from special interests with issues before congress. so we have a system of legalized bribery in this in this ....
