Noted BHU scientist succumbs to Covid

Varanasi (UP), April 26 (IANS) Noted physicist Prof. Onkar Nath Srivastava, Emeritus Professor, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), who was awarded the Padma Shri in 2016 for his research on hydrogen energy and nanotechnology, died of Covid at BHU hospital.
The cremation was held on Sunday.
He was 79 and was on ventilator support at Sir Sunderlal Hospital after testing positive for Covid-19 on April 20.
Prof Srivastava, was a material physicist and vice president for India and South Asia of the International Association for Hydrogen Energy.
After doing his post-doctoral research at Cornell University, USA, he returned to India to start his career as a lecturer at BHU, where he served as a reader, professor, head of the department of physics and the coordinator of the Centre of Advance Studies - Hydrogen Energy Centre. ....

SUKKUR: Dean Faculty of Education in Sindh University, Jamshoro, Prof Dr Saleha Parveen, has passed away at the age of 56 due to current wave of Covid-19 pandemic. Reports said she was admitted to the LUMS with complaint of chest pain, where she tested Covid-19 positive and later died due to the infection.
Her funeral was held at Bismillah Town in Hyderabad. Vice-Chancellor Sindh University and others expressed their condolences with the bereaved family and also paid rich tributes to her dedicated services in the field of education. ....

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has issued notices to the provincial universities and boards department, University of Karachi (KU) and others on a petition against the appointment of the KU acting vice chancellor (VC), Prof Khalid Mahmood Iraqi.
Petitioners Prof Muhammad Ahmed Qadri and Prof Moonis Ahmar had submitted in the petition that Prof Iraqi was illegally appointed as the acting VC of Karachi University in violation of the set precedents and procedure.
They submitted that the acting VC was also an applicant in the ongoing but much delayed process of the appointment of a permanent VC and alleged that during his tenure as the acting VC, he took decisions that could not be taken by an acting VC and he usurped the authority of other authorities of the varsity. ....
