"Direct contact membrane distillation for liquid desiccant regeneration" by Jingjing Liu, Haoshan Ren et al.

Liquid desiccant cooling (LDC) systems are being widely considered as a promising alternative for energy savings and the regeneration is one of the most significant processes of the LDC systems. This paper presents a direct contact membrane distillation (DCMD) regenerator for liquid desiccants regeneration of LDC systems and fresh water production simultaneously. The novelty of this study is to use the response surface method to establish models to predict the DCMD regeneration performance with highly concentrated lithium chloride solutions based on the experimental investigation. The interactive effects of the operating parameters, i.e. initial feed concentration, feed inlet temperature, distillate inlet temperature, and feed and distillate flow rates were studied and the optimal conditions of the DCMD regenerator to maximize the feed concentration increase and transmembrane water flux were identified. The experimental results showed that stable regeneration performance and water prod ....

"Further analysis of the influence of interstage configurations on two-" by Shuang Jiang, Shugang Wang et al.

Abstract
Two-stage vapor compression technology can effectively improve system performance, mainly due to the thermal effects of different interstage configurations. The thermal effects should be further analyzed to obtain quantitative results for different refrigerants. Based on mathematical analysis and numerical methods, the influences of the two thermal effects, i.e., subcooling and desuperheating, on the heating coefficient of performance (COP ) are analyzed. The results show that the subcooling promotes the COP regardless of what refrigerant is employed; and the larger the molar specific heat capacity (evaluated by C ) of the refrigerant is, the greater the subcooling promotes the COP . When C is less than 60 J mol K , the desuperheating improves the COP , whereas when C is larger than 70 J mol K , it reduces the COP . The maximum improvement in the COP caused by interstage subcooling can reach up to 23%, while that caused by desuperheating is less than 6%. h h p,m ....

"Adaptive and Predictive Energy Management Strategy for Real-time Optim" by Ghulam Mohy-ud-din, Kashem M. Muttaqi et al.

Abstract
Virtual power plants (VPPs) have become a driving force for the decentralized energy industry, due to their efficient management and control of distributed energy resources. Most of the operation strategies for VPPs are designed based on the day-ahead forecasts. However, the prediction errors of the renewable energy sources (RES) and loads in the power dispatch schedule can lead to a sub-optimal operation. In this paper, an adaptive and predictive energy management strategy for a real-time optimal operation of VPPs is proposed based on the model predictive control technique with a feedback correction (FC) to compensate for the prediction error. This strategy has two parts: a) receding-horizon optimization (RHO), and b) FC. In the first part, a hybrid prediction algorithm based on the integration of the time series model and the Kalman filter is used to forecast the output powers of RES and the loads. Based on the prediction, the RHO model schedules the operation follo ....

"Intelligent Controllers and Optimization Algorithms for Building Energ" by K. Parvin, M. S.Hossain Lipu et al.

Abstract
Buildings account for a significant amount of energy consumption leading to the issues of global emissions and climate change. Thus, energy management in a building is increasingly explored due to its significant potential in reducing the overall electricity expenses for the consumers and mitigating carbon emissions. In line with that, the greater control and optimization of energy management integrated with renewable energy resources is required to improve building energy efficiency while satisfying indoor environment comfort. Even though actions are being taken to reduce the energy consumption in buildings with several optimization and controller techniques, yet some issues remain unsolved. Therefore, this work provides a comprehensive review of the conventional and intelligent control methods with emphasis on their classification, features, configuration, benefits, and drawbacks. This review critically investigates the different optimization objectives and constrai ....

Medicaid expansion is a good thing. medicaid is one of the most inefficient and awful programs. if you know anybody who has been on medicaid, you would do everything you could to change that program. at its best, this is study coming out of oregon. that everybody points to. after two years they found there was no clear health outcome benefit to being on medicaid. let s move to one more talking point that we hear a lot. and i would be very interested in hearing your view. we ve heard over and over again, because of this, you ll have this part timization of everybody. and luckily, the number actually came out today. and i want to read you these numbers. it turns out over the past 12 months we ve created 1.6 million full time joks. we ve lost 287,000 part time joks. what does that do to the argument that obama care is this wrecking ball? i don t think it is as much whether or not it is destroying full time jobs are now become part-time jobs. ....
