COVID-19 second wave | 500 doctors, health workers of Bihar's 2 leading hospitals infected


He said the list includes 70 doctors and over 55 nurses and other health workers.
AIIMS and PMCH along with another state-run medical establishment, Nalanda Medical College and Hospital, are catering to a large number of COVID patients in the state capital.
The PMCH superintendent said that the hospital authorities have arranged separate isolation spaces for its infected employees.
PMCH, the century-old premier hospital of Bihar, has a facility of around 105 beds for COVID patients barring its staff and all are occupied at present, Thakur said.
AIIMS Patna has expanded its bed capacity to 250 and all the beds are occupied.
The PMCH superintendent said that due to the infection of many staffers, the hospital is facing a manpower shortage. ....

The total positive cases now increased to 3,88,479 while active cases stood at 35,075. The government had tested 42,983 persons while 6,164 were found to be infected with coronavirus. The test positivity rate is 14.34% which has been steadily rising for the past few days. With active cases shooting up, the health infrastructure has come under severe strain.
Warning to doctors
The State government issued a stern warning to doctors who were reluctant to join their duties at COVID-19 hospitals.
“It is seen that in the present COVID-19 pandemic, which has been declared as a national disaster, a number of doctors temporarily posted for management of COVID-I9 duty in different districts are not joining to their place of deployment; thus putting hardship on district administration,” said Director of Medical Education and Training (DMET) in a letter. ....

COVID-19 surge: Odisha CM wants vaccine in open market, priority to big cities

In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Naveen Patnaik cautions against lockdown in metropolises that would have a cascading impact on other areas.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding that COVID-19 vaccines be made available outside the government supply chain in the open market so that willing citizens who can afford vaccines can avail them.
Mr. Patnaik suggested rationalisation in vaccine distribution with a focus on metropolitans who contribute to the spread of COVID-19 in the country and cautioned against lockdown in big cities that would have a cascading impact on other areas. ....

There are 165 active cases now in the State with 31 infections being reported during the last 24 hours.
The Manipur government has clamped night curfew effective from Friday night in view of the surge in COVID-19 cases in the State. The order issued by Chief Secretary Rajesh Kumar said that essential services would be exempted from the curfew which will remain in force from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. till April 30. After a lull, now there are 165 active cases in the State with 31 infections being reported during the last 24 hours. ....
