BEIJING — A college student in southern China was bitten by a panda after he broke into the bear’s enclosure hoping to get a hug, state media and a park employee said Saturday.
The student was visiting Qixing Park with classmates on Friday when he jumped the 6.5-foot (2-meter) -high fence around the panda’s habitat, said the park employee, who refused to give his name.
The park in Guilin, a popular tourist town in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, houses a small zoo and a panda exhibit. It was virtually deserted when the student scaled the fence surrounding the panda, named Yang Yang, the employee said.

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Crowds flocked to Taipei's Yangmingshan National Park to chase snow on Saturday (Jan. 9) after the city lifted the traffic control that had been in place at park entrances since the previous day.
The national park's Qixing Mountain, Mt. Datun, Mt. Miantian, Mt. Xiangtian, and Erziping received their first snow of the year on Friday (Jan. 8). Traffic control was enforced Friday to prevent traffic jams, and cars were required to have snow chains on their tires.
The capital’s Department of Transportation ended snow-related controls at around 10 a.m. on Saturday, as no further snowfall or sleet had been observed around Yangmingshan, according to CNA. Police said roads in the area had been cleared of ice.

China has embraced its 17th consecutive year of a bumper harvest after reporting an annual grain output of nearly 1.34 trillion tonnes, up 11.3 billion tonnes from a year ago. It's been the sixth year for China to report an annual grain output above 1.3 trillion tonnes.
The bumper harvest was a result of the country's efforts to stabilize its policies, farmland areas, and yields. It also came from the Chinese people's victory against COVID-19 and floods. The Chinese people have full control over their food supply.
