Several bridges in North America, two in Denmark, Japan and both Severn Bridges have been closed for the exact same reason. Transport Scotland has now said it is “reviewing” further options to deal with the ice risk. Before it opened in August 2017, designers of the crossing from Arup and Jacobs claimed it would not be closed by high winds, with barriers installed to protect it from high gusts. Since then the risk of falling ice has, however, proved a problem.
