Regions were already hard-hit, not necessarily dallas, but mississippi, portions of arkansas, parts of louisiana. 2 1/2 to 4 inches of rain have come down in a span of 24 hours. the same system responsible for the mess, a southerly flow. moisture, being tapped into from the golf, and it is oscillating back and forth between eastern texas, portions of arkansas and louisiana and mississippi, as well. that is precisely where all the action has been the last 24 hours. moving out of eastern texas, into louisiana, arkansas, and mississippi. really, the forecast, notice the current perspective he was radar imagery. thunderstorms, abound. jackson, mississippi, portions of central mississippi, in line here with flood alerts, even flood warnings, meaning flooding is imminent or occurring this morning, across this region of central mississippi. yet, the concern is with about 3 billion americans underneath this risk of funding, additional thunderstorms will bring heavy rainfall once again, through ....
Of course the concern has been so much on texas and that heavy rainfall we saw, the energy as you noted is shifting eastward and south of this region, but the pattern that set the stage for this heavy rainfall, it is still in place. so we do expect another round of heavy rains. maybe not as much as we saw monday, but 2 to 4 inches has come down across louisiana, arkansas and the state of mississippi. and you look being at this hyper focused area and a couple pockets do pop out indicated in the reds and oranges, 5 to 6 inches in isolated areas. so plenty of rains have fallen east of the area that was hardest hit in dallas metro. and you look at the radar imagery, notice the density of storms popping up just to the north and east of jackson, mississippi, precisely where we have flood warnings in place that have been in place the last hour or so as a result of these heavy rains. notice well to the west and back towards areas of far eastern texas, still seeing flood alerts ....
And native american officials say that the fire danger level is very high. pedram javaheri is at the cnn weather center monitoring all of this for you. yeah, max, we ll start off talking about the flooding concerns because we know still about 2 million americans across eastern kentucky, portions of west virginia are still underneath a risk here for flooding over the next few hours before conditions gradually begin to improve and of course you ve seen the scenes play out here with a tremendous amount of rainfall and devastating floods that have been in place and you really cannot overstate the significance, the force, ferocity of moving water. because water just at your knee height moving at around a 6 miles per hour has the same force per unit area as a high end tornado. so that is the amount of force behind the water that was on the ground across this refugee often eastern kentucky and you see why the damage left behind. radar imagery this morning, you want to look towards pikeville ....
This runs parallel to the coast of south and north carolina going forward. now this is the radar imagery i was talking about a moment ago. notice that spin, the little circulation right northeast of charleston. this is what we were watching overnight. this is prompted the national weather service on top of the observations of winds of tropical storm force along the coast to issue this newly formed tropical storm colin and rainfall potential can t be underestimated. we have the potential for two to four inches of rain locally higher amounts. and if is that amount of rain falls in a quicker period of time, of course, that could lead to localized gnasflash flooding. something we will monitor as well. the weather prediction center has a slight rick of flash flooding across the coastal areas of louisiana. hey, dpguess what, we have e potential for severe weather across some of the most populated areas of sea board, ....
Well. starting to move into some of the metropolitan areas here, but really, we re going to keep the freezing rain potential, just outside of new york city, philadelphia, baltimore, d.c., and boston. that really is the dividing line with that precipitation. i ll show you why in just one moment. you can see just how active this radar imagery actually is. we have over 30 million americans, as kristi just mentioned, under a winter weather advisory. and that encompasses many areas just outside of those cities that i just mentioned a moment ago. that is why the population density is so high. and that is why so many americans are feeling the brunt of this winter storm moving through. you can see the precipitation falling as freezing rain, where you see that shading of purple, western, and central pennsylvania, portions of southern new york. but it starts to mix in with a bit of rain and snow, where you see that shading of pink. into the catskills and adirondacks region, that s where we re ex ....
