LAX Police Chief Rhambo to Run for L.A. County Sheriff Posted On Rafu Wire and Staff Reports LAX Police Chief Cecil W. Rhambo Jr. announced Monday that he will challenge Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva in next year’s election. Cecil Rhambo Jr. Rhambo was sworn in as chief of airport police on Nov. 6, 2019. He retired from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in 2014 at the rank of assistant sheriff. In his 33 years with the Sheriff’s Department, he developed expertise in areas including municipal patrol, emergency management, community partnerships and employee union relations. As an assistant sheriff, his responsibilities included LA Metro’s rail and bus lines, experience that he said serves him well as Los Angeles World Airports builds an Automated People Mover train system, which will connect to Metro’s regional rail system when completed in 2023. ....

Shooting Spree; Suspect Dead Posted On Rafu Wire and Staff Reports The Los Angeles Police Department issued the following report on Tuesday: Photo of Mingzhi Zhu from a GoFundMe page established for his family. “Today around 12:55 a.m., LAPD officers responded to a shooting incident at Figueroa/Exposition in Southwest Patrol Division. They found a male adult who had been shot at and sustained a graze wound to the head. The victim is expected to survive his injuries. The suspect was described as a male in a white Jeep Cherokee. That information was sent to all patrol units. ....
Suspect Arrested After Fatal DUI Crash, Charged with Murder Posted On Rafu Wire and Staff Reports SANTA ANA Pedro Pantoja Jr., 29, of Diamond Bar was charged April 20 with second-degree murder for allegedly triggering a fatal wrong-way crash while eluding police. Pantoja was arrested on April 18 after he was involved in two crashes. The first crash happened at about 8:45 a.m. at the 2800 block of Park Avenue, near the Costco at the District at Tustin. David Kawashima, 62, of Orange was killed in the first crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene. As Tustin police were responding to that accident, the suspect fled. A police pursuit began and it ended with another crash when the suspect, going north in the southbound lanes of Jamboree Road, collided with another vehicle north of Warner Avenue. ....
