for folks to please, please be careful. these conditions can worsen quickly. we'll let you get by and thanks so much. really appreciate it. we'll go to the weather center for a new advisory issued just moments ago. we saw the conditions there with stephanie elam a few moments ago. this is what we've been warning people about the last 48 hours that these bands are going to arrive and the rain is going to come down in big, heavy doses. what are you learning? >> that's right. we're seeing rainfall rates that happen an inch to inch and a half an hour. some of these areas only get 2 inches of rain per year. so we know the terrain in southern california, the topography. we just can't absorb the water. you're going to see it rushing through the streets, rushing through these valleys as well. we have mountainous terrain, a huge concern over the next 12 hours especially. winds are down to 60 miles per hour.

happening now or it's in there. it includes los angeles metro. area we are concerned there and we are concerned east of san diego. as well the radar image. notice lightning. it's showing electricity. it's showing the enhancement. we are looking at conductive. bands when you have convective, bands that enhances the rainfall rates. and that's why we are seeing those yellows and reds and oranges showing up in radar. they're showing us where the heavy rain is falling. that will be a concern over the next 6 to 12 hours. locally, up to five inches, you can see more especially in the mountains. this extends all the way to portions of montana. notice through the northern plains as well. and then even into utah. that cedar city. we're looking at the chance for heavy rainfall as well. and then there's flagstaff. we have seen gusty winds so far. this wasn't really ever a wind story. we are still seeing 84 mile power winds. and that would cause the mountain. it's going to continue that as we go throughout tonight. that's where we see the really high wind gusts in the mountains. and then alicia, on top, that

michelle, a long weekend is approaching. how's it looking? >> hey there. it's approaching and we're looking at wet weather for many of us. unfortunately in portions of of the southeast, the carolina coast is going to be soaked this weekend. we're looking at rough surf, too. we're stuck in this rough pattern for many in the west. the central southern plains, you could see more severe weather as we go through this afternoon. the southeast florida you've seen so much rain over the past few days, you're going to see it once again. and that is the setup for today. it's going to be cooler in the northeast but it's going to be dry, that's the good news. here's the setup for that coastal low off the southeast coast over the weekend. today we're looking at that slow moving low just kind of spinning off the coast there and going to bring rainfall rates and chance for high flooding. we were soaked monday, tuesday, wednesday and going to be soaked once again today into the weekend. and then it moves slowly to north so the carolinas you're going to get a lot of rain and kick up those seas. not a great beach day as we head
