Johannesburg - Ramaphosa must have he thought he was the anti-Christ this week. Well he was for the anti-vaxxers, but as they say in Afrikaans, if you don’t want to listen, you’ve to feel it. As the inimitable talk show host Lester Kiewit tweeted on Monday morning, finding anyone who didn’t break a single third-wave prevention rule will be like looking for a National Party voter in 1994.
“They don’t exist and it’s totally someone else’s fault. I mean even me. ‘But it’s fatigue you see’ ‘Where’s the vax?’ We’re all collectively to blame.”

Bathabile Dlamini | Manuel claims Duarte drank the Kool-Aid but maybe he should also sit down

 Bathabile Dlamini
writes that the Zondo commission has not been consistent. This follows an article written by Jessie Duarte and a subsequent response from Trevor Manuel.
The Chinese Communist Party has a useful saying: "Seeking truth from facts."
As I read and re-read Comrade Jessie Duarte's article (Testimony at Zondo commission is an onslaught against the people) and the subsequent three-peas-in-a-pod responses, I tried to find the spot where she says the ANC supports corruption or the ANC is against the commission.
Correctly, as Trevor Manuel (Clearly, Jessie Duarte drank the Kool-Aid; in the process, her morality was consumed) points out, it was the ANC government who established the commission but while many of us in the ANC argued that so-called "state capture" and corruption should be investigated from the founding days of our democracy, there was a determination by some to isolate and only investigate the Guptas.

Hamba kahle, Mkhonto. Farewell, Comrade Speech

South Africa has lost a brave and gentle giant with the passing this week of former uMkhonto weSizwe guerilla David Moisi – or, as he was known (apparently because of his penchant for making long political speeches while in prison), “Comrade Speech”.
Speech is one of the lesser known heroes of our Struggle, at least outside MK ranks, which is partly due to his own humble and quiet approach to his past, his present and the future. Most of the time, he was disarmingly quiet, despite his nickname – but when he spoke, people listened.
His tale, in the beginning, is not unlike many of his generation: fuelled by a fundamental anger at the injustice of apartheid and deeply influenced by the student uprisings in 1976, he joined the South African Students’ Movement (SASM) in 1977. He became the first chairperson of the Vaal branch of the SASM and was arrested in a number of protests before deciding to leave the country in 1978 and take up arms.
