ALBANY, N.Y. â Albany County Executive Daniel McCoy provided the latest on the COVID-19 pandemic during his Monday morning press briefing.
McCoy continued to encourage people to become vaccinated against the virus. The county executive also implored people to share their stories and educate vaccine-hesitant people on the safety and effectiveness of the vaccines. We need your help. We need to continue to do the right thing to open up and to get back to somewhat normalcy or where we were at pre-COVID, McCoy said on the need for people to become vaccinated.

As of Sunday, 54.2% of Albany Countyâs population has received at least the first dose of the vaccine, and 41.5% have been fully vaccinated. Statewide, the first dose vaccination rate is 46.5%, and the full vaccination rate is 34.9%.
ALBANY, N.Y. â Albany County Executive Daniel McCoy and Albany County Department of Health Commissioner Dr. Elizabeth Whalen both addressed the need to expand encouragement efforts to vaccinate people, so that the Capital Region can reach herd immunity and return to a sense of normalcy.
The two noted how vaccinations are starting to plateau and why more outreach is necessary in pushing people in the right direction. To that end, McCoy announced a video challenge on Instagram, imploring people to share their stories on why they became vaccinated against COVID-19 and how vital it is to resuming regular life.

At a press briefing on Friday morning, Albany County Executive Dan McCoy announced that as of Thursday, 50 percent of Albany County’s population has received at least their first dose, and 36 percent have been fully vaccinated.
There have been 41 new COVID cases in Albany County since Thursday, and the five-day average for new daily positives decreased from 58.6 to 52.8.
Among the new COVID cases, 30 had close contact with positive cases, 10 had no clear source of infection, and one is a healthcare worker or resident of a congregate setting.
