They evacuated the station out of an abundance of caution. Im told that some type of trash and debris maybe newspaper got underneath the third rail. That is what sparked the fire. It was described to me as very minor. Why did metro shut the station down for the rest of the day . After the ntsb report and grilling from the public, they want to make sure they are taking every necessary precaution as possible. This is the metro police department. They have the escalateer going down to the station blocked off. We spoke to a number of commuters that are, to say the least, frustrated. Take a listen....
