Initial cost for custom masks for paramedics yields unexpected benefits

Initial cost for custom masks for paramedics yields unexpected benefits
Some hospitals spent a chunk of COVID-19 disaster funds on custom-made masks for their paramedics. Even though they had the first chance to get the vaccine, the masks are for extra protection. Premier Health is betting it will make patients safer and first responders better.

BERKSHIRE BYGONES: IDR plans thrown out over route near Reading's Forbury

BYGONES: 1970s IDR plans thrown out over route near Forbury
THE Mayor and Mayoress of Reading posed for a photocall on the new second section of the IDR in 1971, but, even as they did so, controversial plans were unveiled for the third.
A section of the Inner Distribution Road was to swing round from London Street, under the Prudential building and clash ‘head-on’ with the western side of the Forbury Gardens.
How this monumental problem would be solved was displayed in model form, complete with a pedestrian bridge, linking the gardens to the town centre.
BRIDGE TOO FAR: New plans for the IDR looked impractical

Firefighters were called to the 1200 block of Chestnut Street in Reading at about midnight.
"Bursting flames and in the front, you see the whole stairwell where you see inside the door. You see the whole stairwell on fire," said Misael Rodriguez, who lives nearby.
The fire department said two people were trapped inside and by the time crews got to them, it was too late.
Rodriguez said he tried to save one woman.
"We were trying to pull her out," he said.
As crews battled the fire, the department upgraded it to a second alarm, calling in backup. It took firefighters about 45 minutes to put out the flames.

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - The Reading Fire Department was among the dozens of units in Hamilton County to receive the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine Wednesday.
Around 80% of the department’s firefighters rolled up their sleeves to get the first dose of the vaccine.
The firefighters said it was quick, painless, and the whole process took only around a minute.
Tyler Strole was the first to receive the vaccine here at the Reading Fire Department.
“We’ve done a lot of training on the vaccination through local doctors,” said Strole. “I did my own research and I felt like it was the best decision for me, my career, and my community.”

Shock and disbelief follows Reading City Council decision to end the Downtown Improvement District

Back
Stoyer, who grew up in Reading and has deep roots in the city, was still reeling from the shock that DID was done.

"People don’t realize what they are getting rid of," he said.
City Council voted 4-3 on Monday night not to reauthorize the improvement district for another five years.
DID, an organization that has been tasked to provide a clean, safe and green downtown since 1995, will cease to exist on Dec. 31 at 4 p.m.
DID board chairman Jim Cinelli was still in shock Tuesday afternoon.
"I'm absolutely dumbfounded by the poor judgement displayed by four of the council members last evening," he said. "Without the DID, conditions in the downtown will surely erode, and I fear that we will revert to how the city was two decades ago. If that happens those council members should be held accountable."
