Essential workers lined up at Cesar Chavez High School on a rainy Friday for the first of three days of a COVID-19 vaccine event for public transit, U.S. Postal Service and funeral home workers in Phoenix.
Many workers heard about the vaccine event in advance through their employers, pre-registered for an appointment and arrived at the event to get the single-dose Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine.
Art Aguilar, a U.S. Postal Service mail handler, said getting this vaccine means he can finally visit with his parents in person. ....

A Phoenix police officer who threatened to shoot Mayor Kate Gallego retired this week ahead of a pre-termination meeting, preventing the Police Department from taking any disciplinary action against him, according to officials on Monday.
Poulos was scheduled to have a pre-termination meeting with Chief Jeri Williams, however, he provided his retirement notice before the meeting took place, Fortune said. As of Monday, the 22-year department veteran was no longer employed by the department, Fortune said. ....

Phoenix officials and their partners are hoping the eye-catching amenities of a new $8.6 million mega playground in downtown Phoenix s Margaret T. Hance Park attract not just curious families and children, but other funders as well.
The playground, named Fiesta Bowl Play at Hance Park, opened this week in a socially-distanced gathering of the community activists, developers, nonprofits and donors who made it happen. The 20,000-square-foot playground, with three giant animal play structures made out of recycled plastic lumber, is as unique as its location. ....
