Aspen Leadership Forum on Retirement Savings is kicking off its fifth convening with a free, public dialogue on how retirement savings must be part of an equitable recovery from COVID-19. We invite policymakers, the private sector (record keepers, asset managers, plan sponsors, consultants, fintech), academia, nonprofits, and advocates to join us in a dialogue designed to accelerate the development of a truly inclusive savings system.
Attendees will receive:

Democratic Gov.
Tony Evers will ignore Republicans’ pleas to not recommend big spending increases and other “divisive” issues in the budget he hands the GOP-controlled Legislature on Tuesday. Instead, Evers is poised to call for the passage of a 2021-23 state budget that envisions a broader role for state government and swings for the progressives’ fences by:
-Legalizing marijuana sales to those over 18, which goes beyond his 2019 call to decriminalize it. Evers says recreational marijuana users could pay $165 million a year in taxes.
Itâs no coincidence that state Treasurer Sarah Godlewski rolled out recommendations of the Retirement Security Task Force she led six days before another Democrat, Gov. Tony Evers, hands the Republican-controlled Legislature his two-year budget plan.
The timing suggests the big changes Godlewski wants are a likely centerpiece of the governorâs budget proposal, along with other big changesâlegalizing and taxing marijuana, for exampleâEvers announced before his Tuesday speech.
In her Wednesday announcement, Godlewski said state government should play a much bigger role in financial planning for retirement in three ways:
âWisconsinSaves is a simple, plug-and-play auto-IRA enrollment program for Wisconsin businesses of all sizes, which would utilize best practices to extend access to retirement savings to nearly 1 million Wisconsinites.
