Rail industry calls for clarity on Northern schemes
Railway Industry Association (RIA) chief executive Darren Caplan has said the industry needs “visibility” to “invest efficiently and effectively” in the North following the government’s decision to slash central funding to Transport for the North (TfN).
Caplan emphasised the need for clarity about Northern investment.
“The uncertainty around TfN’s budget, and investment level for schemes like Northern Powerhouse Rail, will not help rail suppliers who are looking to plan and prepare for future work to deliver,” he said. “We crucially need to see the publication of the Integrated Rail Plan soon so members of the rail supply industry have the visibility they need to invest efficiently and effectively.”

I’ve always been attracted to single-make championships. Unlike Formula 1, in which results are arguably determined by the better car, the idea with a single-specification series is that all cars in it are equally prepared and driving talent rises to the top.
Over the years, I’ve competed in a number of these single-make events, including Viper Cup, MX-5, and Superlites in the Lucas Oil short track off-road racing series. My timing wasn’t right to compete in the legendary Canadian Honda Civic spec series, but when Nissan’s Micra Cup arrived in Canada, I was game.

Ten Strike Racing's Lucky Move overtook Mrs. Orb in deep stretch, rallying from last to outkick the even-money favorite by a half-length in Sunday's $100,000 Bay Ridge for New York-bred fillies and mares 3-years-old and up at Aqueduct Racetrack in Ozone Park, N.Y.
Lucky Move, the winner of the Empire Distaff Handicap on October 24 at Belmont Park going 1 1/16 miles, handled the stretch out to 1 1/8 miles for the seventh running of the Bay Ridge, notching her second consecutive victory. The result was the reversal of last year's 1-2 finish in the Bay Ridge, when Mrs. Orb bested Lucky Move by a nose.
