ROCKPORT — Town officials made their case for creating a town-run and budgeted Emergency Medical Services department to replace contracted services from an outside company, arguing that costs of contracting
Bill Kitchen, the Machias town manager, airport manager — and a volunteer fireman — said he’s been on calls where the weather and those precious minutes mattered.
Over the past year, there have been 168 critically ill patients in the Machias area who spent an hour or more traveling by helicopter to a hospital.
Plans have begun for a project designed to help those in emergency situations, but total funding still has to be procured.
