The broke and beleaguered SA Post Office must find a way to cough up roughly R800m it owes the Post Office Retirement Fund after the Supreme Court of Appeal ruled that its inability to pay did not relieve it of the obligation to do so. The post office, which the office of the auditor-general last year said was effectively insolvent, has put in jeopardy its 16,000 employees’ pension benefits after it stopped paying pension contributions in April 2020.
