DESPITE her party s fierce opposition to the NI Protocol, economy minister Diane Dodds has formally signed off on a detailed roadmap to recovery plan underlining selling points for the north post-EU exit.
As part of her blueprint to rebuild a stronger economy when current lockdown restrictions are eased, the DUP minister intends to deliver a new international marketing campaign to international investors under the banner ‘Why NI’.
It will focus specifically on the uniqueness of post EU exit opportunities and on how the region can be a chosen destination for Covid-driven new business models.
Her department has also pledged to carry out sectoral research on EU Exit business opportunities focusing on sectors like services, where the north is deemed to have a competitive advantage. ....

There is reason for optimism this week in the worldwide battle against the coronavirus as critical metrics continue to go down for the third week in a row. But this is tempered by a stern warning from experts that the emergence of new mutant variants has the potential to wipe out these gains.
The COVID Tracking Project has been reporting on the pandemic from the start, and sums it up as follows:
“The good news…continued this week, as new cases, hospitalizations, and deaths all dropped. For the seven-day period running January 28 to February 3, weekly new cases were down more than 16 percent over the previous week, and dropped below one million for the first time since the week of November 5.  This is still an astonishing number of new cases per week, but far better than the nearly 1.8 million cases reported on the week of January 14.” ....

» State House passes $2.2 billion COVID-19 relief bill

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP)  The Washington state House has passed a bill that would allocate $2.2 billion in federal COVID-19 relief funding.
The bill passed the House late Monday and now moves to the Senate.
The Olympian reports the measure directs federal funding to an array of high-priority areas, including $668 million for K-12 schools using a funding formula tied to how many low-income families are in a district.
This as the Whatcom County Health Board is petitioning the Governor to accelerate the re-opening of local businesses now that holiday infection surges have passed.
Councilman Ben Elenbaas posted a letter signed by Council member Barry Buchanan and addressed to Governor Inslee requesting the county be moved to Phase II in the Roadmap To Recovery plan. ....
