New Hampshire Bakery Ordered to Remove Mural Because It Depicts Pastries - Foundation for Economic Education
In June 2022 Leavitt’s Country Bakery unveiled a whimsical new mural featuring a mountain range made of pastries. A week later a zoning officer showed up and told them the mural was illegal because depicting pastries made it count as a sign—and this “sign” was too large for the building. The town is doubling down despite immense public backlash. In response, the bakery recently filed a federal lawsuit.
