Obetz man admits killing innocent man in encounter at Grove City motel

An Obetz man was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison with no chance of parole for 15 years for a fatal shooting one year ago at a Grove City motel. Robert A. Perez III, who turns 22 on Wednesday, pleaded guilty to murder in the death of 41-year-old Derrick Schneider, whose body was found in the doorway of a room at the Motel 6 in the 1900 block of Stringtown Road. Franklin County Common Pleas Judge Jaiza Page gave him the mandatory sentence for murder under Ohio law, and prosecutors dropped a gun specification that would have added three years to the sentence as part of a plea agreement.
