Carroll High School Foundation Kills It With Kindness

The Carroll High School Foundation is thrilled to announce the success of their recent Carroll Kindness fundraiser. COVID-19 has required the implementation of social distancing, making a large annual effort like the Tiger Trot difficult if not unfeasible. The foundation members put their heads together and came up with a plan for kindness instead, that had family, friends, community residents and businesses making pledges in exchange for acts of kindness to be carried out by students. With a goal of $30,000 in 12 days, the initiative started out strong, but was still nearly $8,000 short of that goal on their final day. However, the Carroll community shows up to support their own and came through, raising a grand total of $32,127. This money will go directly to the Carroll Community School District and the foundation will use the funds for field trips, accelerated reading programs, new technology and to help instructors enhance their classroom space and materials. The Carroll High School Foundation, which is self-described as the academic booster club, sends a big thank you to the community, families and businesses for their support of the teachers and administration and the great work they do. “We are also very proud of our students for completing over 6,000 acts of kindness during the fundraiser,” foundation board members wrote. “It was fun to see and track all the random and intentional acts of kindness happening in our district. While we know our students do kind things every day, it was fun to highlight and acknowledge those we saw.” A list of local businesses who made donations to the campaign can be found below.

Wall Lake City Council Schedules Jan. 4 Public Hearing For TIF Funding Request

The Wall Lake City Council has set the date for a required public hearing to move forward with an economic development proposal for a local business. Clerk, Chris Rodman, says the city is planning to use Tax Increment Financing (TIF) funds that will assist Robinson Ruhnke, PC open a branch in Wall Lake.
City leaders have scheduled this public hearing for their first council meeting of the new year on Monday, Jan. 4. Wall Lake generally holds their council meetings on the second and fourth Monday of each month, but Rodman says they are holding additional meetings in January to ensure business is conducted in a timely manner. The council will accept commentary from the public during the hearing, but Rodman says the proceedings will be largely a formality.
