It’s been four years since some of the worst scenes of COVID-19 played out in locked-down nursing homes during the early months of the pandemic.
Between 2019 and 2022, Illinois saw 49 nursing homes closures and just three openings, leading to the loss of some 2,500 nursing home beds statewide.
